    mara43:

check this one out on St.Andrew's #1

(camera angle 2 is best view).......could have found it after a quick search & there was no one waiting on tee box....

Best view from cam 2 (below), I agree, and a broader view is possible from cam 4 (reverse green camera).

The ball disappears when landing on the square patch next to the burn (Champs tee #2) indicating OOB. This is OOB on the real course, too, running along the white fence from the tee, then following Swilcan Burn until the bridge on the far left side of the picture, furtheron following another fence to the second track.

The big closely mown area left of the rough is a part of the Ladies' Putting Green (The Himalayas, see some great pics and a report to the point.)

So if you hit the ball at St. Andrew's into the middle of the 14th fairway on the left side you lose your ball.

This is not the 14th but the 5th fairway, and there an internal limitation takes place. As a rule of thumb, this game has virtual OOBs at or in the vincinity of the mini-map fringes. Another famous place is OAK #4. There's a patch of FW right-hand of the rough, providing an excellent angle for a shot to the green but belonging to #5. Take care not to miss it to the right though - poof!

(Same at STA#7 far left - FW #12)

This is OOB on the real course, too

Alosso, great explanation which makes perfect sense, though if that happened to me playing real golf I would have played a played my 3rd & then nipped across the foot bridge to retrieved my ball (not that it really matters.....not one to dwell on minor things like that...!!!)

Pity WGT wouldn't have left the ball sitting on the tee box & allow my Avatar to go over......!!

nice photos of 'the Himalayas'. Had heard of it many times but had not seen photos of it....looks like fun especially for kids....

    :-)

With regard to those lost balls I always consider myself a Pro - would they stroll off the course or get a ball retriever (which ain't available during an Open)? On second thought, it's the bread-and-butter income of WGT IMHO, and each concession concerning retrievals would most likely result in a compensation, by higher prices for a sleeve or worse.

Concerning the Himalayas' photos, it was a lucky search engine shot, reviving my memory from last year's spring visit to the area. 2 + 1 GBP for 27 holes guarantee for an hour or more of big fun for real golfers, too, considering that they set up tracks of otherways impossible putts, AND I PLAYED A HIO! *daydreaming*

What gets me is that you see the ball and it tells you out of bounds. And the fairway to the left on #14 is used so you dont have to hit from bunker or fescue when its impossible to clear. I hit a shot that is not even a 1/4 the way into it and the ball disappears and says lost ball. That is not a camara angle because the other three hit the ball over there and they all got a nice camara angle. I just think its a cheap way to take money out of peoples pockets. We are the reason they are successful and now richer.
