Hogwired:
Appreciate the input, all.
My 56-degree wedge goes 100yds, so I don't really see the benefit from an 80yd wedge... please feel free to enlighten me, though. My 15-ft Avg From Hole is mostly because of my iron shots, as I don't miss by much with wedges.
Plus, the 225yd hybrid "could" help with my thread's goal of tearing up the par 5's. It seems like its more accurate and consistent (higher level) than my 220yd 3-iron.
I have another question -- Does a 282yd driver make considerably more than a 4yd improvement over my 278yd driver?
Thanks,
Hog
You need to remember there's 5 shots with a wedge, Full, Punch, Pitch, Chip and Flop that's 5 more distances you can play full strength and so not have to 'judge' the distance. Also what they do after landing will affect the club you use too.
Choking down on any club reduces it's reliability, i.e. whether the shot goes the distance you want it to, whether that's due to deviations or human ability I'm not sure but it's what most people experience.
In general punches roll more after landing and on some greens that's NOT what you want, pitches with the Clevelands with full back spin stop dead on anything less than the downhill slope of Mount Everest, that 3rd wedge gives you that many more options. On the other hand that hybrid you've got adds nothing to your repertoire that your irons or an improved 3W (hint BB) wouldn't do better.
Edit: The hybrid won't help on Par5's at all, and the extra choices around the greens with the extra wedge will save you many more shots. However looking at your equipment again, if you want a longer second shot I'd wait until you make L84 (next level for you) then get the R11 3W, you will be flabbergasted what 3Ws of that level and higher will do with backspin, i.e. they'll stop DEAD on the green. Your longer aim should be the BB 3W but in the mean time the R11 will make you wonder what use the hybrid ever was. (I use mine for assaulting my Caddy with and I don't need it in the bag for that).
