Obviously I can move the direction of my shot to try and play the wind.

But there has to be a better and easier way.  Are there ways to add top spin and back spin, hooking and fading options to make it easier to control and take advantage of the wind.

Simply looking for some advice as to how I can enjoy playing even when wind plays a big factor in the game.  Thank you for any input any of you may have. I looked for a training video...but there doesn't appear to be one specific for wind condition play.

Using the Pitch/Chip shot mode - putting green grid

     ApexPC:

When you are 100 yards from the hole -1 mph of wind that is 90° to the line of your shot requires moving the aiming point 1 foot into the wind - 1 mph x 1.00 = 1 foot.

When you are more or less than 100 yards from the hole you adjust.

If you are 167 yards from the hole convert 167  to 1.67 and multiply by the wind speed.

If the 90° cross wind is 10 mph, then move your aim point 16.7 feet into the wind (10 mph x 1.67 = 16.7 feet).

Another example is you have a shot that is 92 yards from the hole and you have the same 90° cross wind that is 10 mph. So then -  0.92 x 10 mph = 9.2 feet you move the aim point.

Wind is often at more or less than 90° to the line of your shot, or a quartering wind.

    A quartering wind that is 45° (+ or -) use a factor of 0.7.

An example is a 12 mph wind that is at a 45° angle to the line of your shot that is 145 yards from the hole. The math is 12 mph x 0.7 x 1.45 = 12.18 feet you move your aim point on the green.

I stopped paying attention to this tip after reading this in the link.

    ApexPC:

The Aiming box pointer is centered on a 20 foot by 20 foot square grid,..........

Important Note: The Pitch/Chip putting grid is a 20 foot square

How good is the rest if you can't figure out how big the grid is?

Yes. You can go crosseyed with the slide rule and calculator and %s and all the rest of that blather or you can just live by some simple facts.

    • Top spin into wind offsets the wind influence.
    • Back spin magnifies the stopping power and shortens the carry into wind
    • Back spin enhances carry with wind, top spin gets it on the ground quicker and shortens the carry but the wind helps the roll.
    • Missing the ding on the down wind side is instant full wind affect and you don't get credit for the aim.
    • Smart missing into the wind will minimize the affect

You will always get a better result by missing into the wind, even over a ding. FWIW, a drive into a 20 mph crosswind will go straight if you miss to the first line on the upwind side of the ding.  ;-)

    That's certainly your prerogative.

It works good enough for me that if I ding the shot and have the right distance I can be within 3 feet of the hole quite consistently.

I had been using those numbers for several months, at least 100 ranked rounds, before I wrote the tip.

How much on course experimentation did you do using the tip as written?

Go to chip mode and 1/2 the grid shown ='s 5yrds, a pretty good rule of thumb I find, consistent too around all tracks...

I just grab the marker and drag it to where I think will be best. Not dinging on the inside helps too.

Impressive statement!  We should be seeing Bollox-like scores then!

That a surprisingly vague range for someone who knows they've had exactly 6 disconnects in just over 2 years. If you gave us a date then we could check your score history and see the improvement.

None.  Your scores and stats didn't warrant it and one mental calculation was enough to know it was quite a bit off compared to what works for me and compared to Kat's calculator.

You should try DaddysKat calculator.  I have spent some on course experimentation time with that.

Consider re-writing your tip to correct for the grid size error.
