    Chinajohn:

    Corwyn:

    Did you read my post?

I'm quoting numbers that play the official free weekly UEL single-play tourneys, available through the game client... and nothing to do with a percentage of forum users.

My spreadsheet is taken directly from those leaderboards. No-one has to signup, or visit the forum, in order to be included.

Then perhaps you are misunderstanding me or vice versa.

Lets take your UEL single-play tourneys, take that number then work out as a percentage of TOTAL games played on WGT in the same period. I'm going to guess it's a very small niche. I'm not talking about sign-ups, I'm talking about the total number of games played per period on the WHOLE of the WGT server, how many are Even Lies against how many are UEL.
Now for me small niches shouldn't be ignored UNLESS taking their wishes into account adversely affects the majority.

John, the reason the amount of UEL games being played at any period is low or niche is because we have so few choices to play UEL games other than in practice mode. That's what we're trying to say here. It's completely unfair to make a comparison from a group that's having it's numbers manipulated through discrimination to a group that gets all it wants.

We can't even play Alt shot in any mode. Think about that for a second. How could we be "adversely affecting the majority" by having the opportunity to play friggin Alt Shot?

    Chinajohn,

I can't say how many of the total games played are on unevens.  You might as well ask for proof of life elsewhere in the universe, while you're at it.  There's definitely an answer to either one of those questions, but there's rather obviously no way to arrive at either of those answers.

What I can do is compare the number of Tour Legends who play the weekly UEL 18 to the number of TLs in the 18 hole single play flat weeklies.

This is not an arbitrary comparison, nor is it one that was cherry-picked for favorable results.  It is the only one that I can make that has a complete data set.  I can't compare other tiers because their numbers are too large to fit on the 250-player leaderboard.  But TLs are still small enough in number to allow for the comparison.

In week 18, 57 TLs played in the UEL event on BO5.   133 played the free 18 on Bethpage.

In week 17, 56 TLs played the Uneven 18 on BOF, and 153 played the flat event on the same course.

In week 16, 64 played the UEL on Bethpage and 137 took advantage of a free 18 on Whistler.

So in the past three weeks, turnout for the UEL 18s has been 43, 37, and 47% of the turnout for the equivalent  flat event.  That's far from being a minute niche.  I'd call it a robust minority.

Fair Point CD. Chicken and Egg scenario and I can accept that.

I've no problem with the expanding of UEL so long as it does not adversely affect those of us (the quieter majority) who prefer even lies. My example is RGs, I'm just getting to the stage where I can risk RGs but of course I pick those courses and winds I think I've got a decent chance of getting into the money in and out of 21 RGs something like 9 of them were UEL last month. That I found annoying.

from looking at the numbers entering the uneven tournaments they seem pretty good and im sure they will increase with wgt providing more options to play uneven lies in ranked rounds, alt shot etc.

a lot of people take about the short shots from rough being really tough but you can get some really good lies in the rough around the greens with no movement just an up-slope or down-slope, also playing uneven lies you use more of your clubs and plan your way around the course just like the pros do

    ChinaJohn:

In addition to Cerino and Ben's fine points above, it should be noted that not only is participation a factor of how many tournaments there are (only 2 out of 17 in the strokeplay game client menu available to one's own tier), but it's also about the incentives on offer.

While flat-lie players have the VUSO, monthly events in the year-long Virtual Tour, and frequent sponsor specials like the Michelin, Leadbetter, Dicks and Nike events, offering total purses of 100,000 to 200,000 and more (or special prizes), the last equivalent high-profile UEL event was in June 2013 (the Legends Merion Challenge). Typically, UEL enthusiasts are playing for a total purse of 1,500 cr (in Legend tier)!

If the top 156 players had the chance to win 2,000cr for getting through the qualifying round in an UEL tourney, don't doubt for a moment that participation would be high!

    ------------

P.S. To be exact, there were 5 UEL RGs that you would have seen as a Legend last month, not 9 (plus one that wasn't UEL but was named as so), and the total list was longer than 21. It sounds as if it would help you to have UEL RGs on a separate tab. Perhaps you might like to suggest that?

now that we have got an 18 hole uneven monthly (single play) ,18 hole uneven weekly (single play) and a 9 hole uneven weekly (single play) how about adding an extra unlimited play weekly or monthly free tournament or multi round, the numbers must be rising if wgt added an extra single play weekly.

its the best way to play wgt, the uneven turf
