happyman123uk:
I have just played a game with a club member ( Hackerj ) who is a legend and has an average of 61.59 which happens to be the same as mine I am also a legend. Now we just plays the front nine at Kiawah island he shot a 6 under and never moved, I shot a 5 under and moved .01 point. I thought it was the amount of ranked games we have played but I have played 354 more games then him.
So we both are at a loss so could someone please explain how the averages work
1) Only scores of the current tier count, and not those on Par3 and Par5 courses. Thus it's impossible to compare from the total "ranked rounds" number in the stats.
2) The Legend average becomes saturated after 500 counting(!) Legend(!) rounds. The impact of a score will be significantly different before and after that.
3) Gross scores are used for average calculation. -6 on KIA means 30 (9 holes), doubled to 60 (18 holes). The impact to the average is unpredictable.
a) Given a saturated average we don't know which score will be replaced. As an example, it might be a 65 or a 95 causing changes of 5/500 = 0.01 or 35/500 = 0.07.
b) In a non-saturated average, the score difference is 61.59 - 60 = 1.59. Unknown is the divisor which is the number of Legend scores. Given 100, the change would be about 1.59/100 = 0.016, given 400 => 1.59/400 = 0.004.
c) The latter number shows another impact: rounding. A variation by 0.004 may or may not appear in the result due to rounding from three to two digits.
And, eventually, the average movement is not so important. To achieve the next tier, you will need 500 scores combining to form a 60.000 average. Your 60 scores will contribute to this feat - congratulations!
