Did you ever wonder if the slope indicating dots move at a different speed depending on the green speed you're playing?    I did.

Intuitively the dots should move faster on champ green speeds than they do on merely fast green speeds.  They indicate the break of the putt right?  Putts on champ speed greens will break more than on slower greens.

But its hard to tell because rarely do we get the same exact putt on a different speed green.  Even if I did get the exact same putt, I'd have to remember the dot speeds from the previous putt and that ain't gonna happen to me.

So, I went to Pinehurts No.2, hole #1 on Standard greens and made a video of a putt.  Then did the same putt on Champ greens and made a video of it.

Then using Windows Live Movie Maker I was able to get the exact time it took a dot to travel one square. (WLMM shows elapsed time to the hundredth of a second for each frame of a video.)

Aw hell, watch the video and find out.....

To be honest, I'd never wondered that.  I always assumed the dots moved at the same speed, regardless of green speed.

When I started reading your post though I did start to wonder.  Very pleased to see it stays constant.

    Nice video by the way.

Surely the break is (should be) constant? The difference is that on a faster green you play it with less power (slower) so the break has more effect?

slow moving putts will break more than faster moving putts so you have to allow for more break on slow puts and down hill putts

But the dots represent the slope of the greens don't they, so the slope is going to be constant what ever the green speed.

Its down to the power you hit the putt, on the video if it was slow greens then i would have to hit ball much harder so ball might not get effected by break for first few feet because I've hit ball much harder so takes out the slope but on champ greens i would have to hit ball more slowly so break will effect ball more immediately making ball turn much more.

Why are the speeds so different from front view to reverse view?

Brilliant observation Jim!   If you look at the same line and compare speeds front vs rear view there is a big difference.

Not sure if this is the right answer, but it could be because the reverse view will not always be 180 degrees from the front view, it could be 160 or 200 degrees.

Yeah, I was just going to say its hard to find the same dot in both views because the front view is so skewed from the cup.  I should have chosen a better spot.
