I play this game less and less, but now that the Open is around, I've been playing Pinehurst a bit. I've only completed 4 rounds, but I've probably started over 100 rounds. Needless to say, I feel like I know the front side very very well.
I haven't played since the last update, but three holes into a round this morning, everything seems buggy. All shots seem to be a lot more variable - both in distance and direction. A weird putt the stopped dead at the hole (I don't know how to post a link to a replay, but it's the only one on my profile).
Meter is weird, too. It's not jumping so much as it's speeding up and slowing down during the swing, so much so that I don't think I hit the ding more than a couple of times during the entire 18 holes, and that includes tap-ins. (strangely enough, one of the only times I actually did hit the ding, I missed a 3' putt that must have started off 10 degrees off line from where I aimed.
I like the variable winds and the stimp meter, but I felt like the whole round was a lottery. I had just as many badly hit shots turn out fine as I did well-struck shots go inexplicably wild.
I've been playing with this set of clubs for a while, and while I don't expect infinite replication of every shot, I have learned these clubs enough to recognize what is normal variance and what is abnormal variance.
I think it's a shame because I really felt like, if I put together a good round, I might have a shot at qualifying. But if this is the new normal, I have no shot beyond blind luck. I sincerely hope this isn't the new normal.
