russellfahey: Just getting in there before the English bashing takes place ay Johnny :)
No 'English bashing' from me, Russ - I'll leave that to the Italians, Uruguayans, and quite possibly, in the not too distant future, any Costa Ricans that may happen to stumble upon this thread.
I well understand your pain btw, but highlighting the failures of other nations won't change a thing - England have taken exactly what they've deserved from this World Cup so far - nothing.
Both teams playing against England so far have shown more heart for the battle. England have failed in that department - found that most surprising.
A defence that looks like a bombscare waiting to happen.
A keeper more interested in styling his eyebrows then anything to do with football.
A team devoid of any imagination other than the odd glimpses from Messrs. Sturridge & Sterling - thought he was a tad fortunate at times not to pick up a 2nd yellow card tonight.
Poor Steven Gerard. Watching him was the same as watching some of the elder Spanish players the other day - sell by date well past in terms of international football. How the television pundits laughed at their demise - karma can be cruel at times, don't you think?
The highlight for me is listening to the commentators. 1-0 down and they round on Rooney, he scores and the question of who England will meet in the final is suddenly valid.
Best of all though is the Adrian Chiles chap , actual comedy gold btw.
How Gus Poyet managed to refrain from wetting himself when answering questions from that clown was a joy to watch.
The EPL is touted by many as the best in the world and in monetary terms it may well be. In purely football terms it's all down to the imported players such as Suarez etc.
Be honest Russ, the Rooney goal tonight only papered over the obvious cracks.
Not so Lil Wayne will probably be hounded out of England just like Beckham - IMO a great player and a fine ambassador for his country.
Sky TV has been harping on about how the expectation levels and media attention were just that bit lower than previous attempts to end all the years of hurt - they've kept telling us so - 24 hrs a day.
I await the Sun's inevitable front page picture of 'Woy' with the World Cup's own 'head in hand' logo superimposed over his face.
Chin up maybe the Italians will do you a favour.
