Donnie, u go on about the right spin etc etc, what I find with the Black R1 is the dot put just below the swoosh or just below callaway letters is the best for me.

Full back spin is not as effective as the settings above, especially on Pinehurst , RSG and StAndies.

I am hardly ever less than 300 yards, unless there is a 20 mph + headwind.

Bounce has a lot to do with final distance. Around the bumpy courses, St Andrews and St Georges I´ll use top spin occasionally. If you catch a bump favorably, 350/360 yrds. But, I must say, 100% driving accuracy is impressive

The BB and The Covert.. both the same except for a decimal point and are a bit disappointing.

The High trajectory of the BB does have it's advantages in certain situations, but overall the R1 Driver for sure

Just for fun, I played 5 rounds today to log the performance of my Bertha 96 only to share the results here:

    Kiawah F-9, low wind,         ave = 310.45 ~ long = 317.89

    St Andy 18, no wind,           ave = 311.47 ~ long = 324.19

    Beth B-9, no wind,               ave = 309.18 ~ long = 322.05

    Pinehurst 18, low wind,       ave = 303.39 ~ long = 314.91

    Best of Par 5 18, low wind.  ave = 311.19 ~ long = 326.87

    61 of 62 fairways hit = 98.39%

    It's a great driver to own   ~ SP ~

Just to see, i just did STA 18 holes no wind, with my SLDR & GI3-d balls (distance 1 dot)

    . Avg 302.9, longest 322. (100% fairway)

With better balls, differences would be not so much.

It is true. The SLDR is superb. With the long balls, it will only be slightly outdriven by a 287 ....about 3 yards lol

From what I've read by a WGT member who was testing balls and distance ratings, he was suggesting that a ball will get at least 2% per dot. I think in some cases he got even more.

If this is true, then I could add up some numbers~

    A 287 yard driver w/ a ball with 1 distance dot:

    287 + 5.74 = 292.7

    ---

    3 dots:

    304.2

    ---

    4 dots:

    309.96

    ---

    5 dots:

    315

Presuming I did the math correctly, do these numbers look like anything close to what the player suggested is possible? I don't have much knowledge on proshop balls yet.

    and any info is welcome

This is how I look at it...

The reason we don't see any huge gains in distance with the high dollar balls are because of the extra spin that also comes with them.

My reasoning:  the more backspin you add to the shot, the shorter it will go, so in order for club rated distances to be fairly accurate, extra dots of distance are there to keep that true.  I believe this since hitting a shot with spin in the center ( or no spin added) tends to go further than clubs rated distance.

Again, my theory and it doesn't keep me up at night. lol  What does keep me up is wanting to play "just one more" round before bed.  Well, that and thinking of ways I can get WGT to think it was their idea to add a yellow Callaway.  :)
