There is an option under Game Settings where players can choose to turn off their speed boost (if they are using one) when on the green. It's very useful for folks using speed boosts who also want to see their putts travel at normal speeds in order to accurately see how the ball breaks (for future reference) not to mention it saves them a stroke used on short putts that go in pretty fast already. The option keeps them from having to pop in & out of the settings menu every time they make the green. A smart option to have.
I'd like to see a similar option for Shot Pal and Putter Pal:
- For Shot Pal, it would be helpful to have a Settings option that always turns off Shot Pal when using a driver (I'd say on any tee shots but this would create an issue on Par 3s). On the rare occasion where a player would need Shot Pal to better gauge a shot with their driver they can go in to Settings & disable this option.
- For Putter Pal, it'd be interesting to have the option to not have Putter Pal displayed on any putt under _____ feet - be it 20 or 10 or 5. Even better, have multiple options - the player can choose for Putter Pal not to be displayed for any putt under 20' or 10' or 5' or 2'.
- An alternative to both of these: a toggle button/switch near the swing meter that turns Shot/Putter Pal on/off. Maybe directly over the meter, right next to the Lexus logo. This is probably the idea I prefer, however I imagine it's the more complicated to implement.
The purpose of both is to save time for those who pop in & out of the settings panel toggling them on and off all throughout a round in the name of making them last a little longer. Some folks to it to avoid losing 7 or 14 strokes when driving the ball and to save strokes here and there on short putts.
I realize one could say that WGT would never add this option because it would help a player's Shot & Putter Pal last longer, meaning they have to purchase them less often. This is true - I counter that with something I mentioned earlier: WGT already allows people using speed boosts to turn off speed boost on the green, saving them strokes & extending the life of their speed boost.
Another thing that can be said is many people use alternatives to Shot & Putter Pal. While true, I would think there are just as many who aren't as savvy that simply purchase the real thing & they'd appreciate the saved strokes. Maybe one of these changes will make it more attractive to those using other methods, who knows.
Granted, I'm moving away from using Shot & Putter Pal. I'm closing in on 300 RRs and I've gained a good feel for using the avatar movements. That said, the toggle switch over the swing meter idea might be the thing to keep me purchasing both for those odd times where I might like to have it.
