    DaddysKat:
First and 2nd place tied ... and WGT determined who won ... after that, there were ties.

The way I see it, is that gh72481 came in 1st using the count back system. That is, if the top 2, 3 or more players are tied. I shot a 27 (same as the leader) in the Kia weekly, but I am 3 or 4 back. I think it's about count back and not who scores the 27 first. case in point: I was the 1st to play the Oakmont monthly and shot a 28 (I was the only one on leader board at the time). And, my 28 is not the first 28 listed now (it's the 8th). I parred the last hole, so so anyone shooting a 28 with a birdie or better on the last hole would beat me on count back. At least that's the way I understand it. I may be wrong. Trying to "understand" or figure out how WGT's computer brains work is impossible, lol. I just play, hope for the best, and go from there. Good luck with your program. I know you'll figure it out.

I have no constructive in put to the important stuff.  I just addressed ponies in the UK, not that I have that much interest in them:).  Good luck with it.

I love playing the ponies ... and sometimes I even win.  I especially love golf tourneys that have parimutuel wagering side-bets.  I even have a program to manage parimutuel wagering in a golf tourney!  For me and many others, adding parimutuel wagering to a tourney seems to bring them out in groves.  Betting the gross is pretty easy, but the payouts aren't that good.  The money is always in the "net" scores (gross - player's handicap).

Anyway, thanks James!  It looks like this will be a lot more difficult than I even imagined, especially if I use that ranking WGT has based on where the player is on the leaderboard and not the position number shown.

Speaking about that ... if you enter a credit tourney in WGT and tie for 2nd with 2 other players, the distribuition of 2nd, 3rd and 4th are added together and paid out equally, regardless of how they are shown on the list.  Isn't this how they handle payouts?

Very true, Jay ... that's the way WGT does it.  I just wish they had a link on their leaderboard where you could see those scores!  I know they have them, so why not share them?

Basically yes.  Sometimes a 31 can get paid same as some one who scores a 30 lower down than first.  Never done the math, but sure you will. You will notice they are not shy on the house cut, but that's a gripe for another day.

Example below which, for your convenience, you can reach via closed tourney link here.

lets say you setup two separate tourneys for a single event

Splitting an 18 hole affair into 2 nines would still have the back 9 as the tiebreaker. I made the turn ahead of you but you passed me on the back 9. If you provide that condition ahead of time your life stays easy.  ;-)

    DaddysKat,

If you go with the "combine and divide" method for handling ties, and you make sure the original points ( for each position) issued are even numbers, the minimum participation number is an even number, the result when you divide should be a whole number and you won't have to deal with the fraction/decimal issue.......maybe

Every now and then I play group skins with the local CC's men's club (just because the Skins Czar loves me).  I know how you FOPs are ... if that condition was placed on "low gross money", there would be a hanging!

But, yeah, there's that theory.  lol.

What I really want to do is come up with how to handle ties and write it into my program.  I have both methods (dead heat and position pay methods) ... I don't know how to go about the WGT order, since I try to put members in points, then name order.

The program does a "cut and paste" then I modify that data, sort it by points and then place on the tournament worksheets.  I don't want to have too much "human interaction" once the user clicks the "Continue" button ... just have the computer do the job.

So, I doubt I'll get your method inserted.  Since WGT pays equal amounts on credit tourneys for placement (regardless of where they are on the leaderboard), I think I'll just have the two options ... but you like to do the math in your head anyway, YJ! (lol).

I now have another issue I just ran into while testing these changes.

In our CC, we have this monthly event that consist of 4 - 18 hole tournaments played on 4 different courses.  I ran into a situation where I had a tie for first place based on total points (236).

So, how do you determine the winner?

All these scorecard tie breakers prefer strong finishers.

    Therefore, reverse comparison of performance, that is scores in tourneys 4 - 3 - 2 - 1.

Or, break the "The Winner Takes It All" attitude and allow for two winners.
