Has anyone used a tour company to book travel and tee times to just play golf across England, Scotland and Wales?  Would love to do it and play the British Open courses.  Any strong recommendations on where to look?

Reid, I've planned and booked two trip to Scotland without using a tour company, and its really not too tough.  Two good resources to start with are:

a book called Golf in Scotland, by Allan Ferguson.  You can get it here http://www.fergusongolf.com/

    a website http://www.golfnook.com/

Both are oriented towards a person planning his (or her) own golf trip, but provide lots of information that would be useful even when working with a tour company. Feel free to contact me at davep043@yahoo.com.  You can also look at the Golf Travel Forum in tripadvisor.com, there's a lot of good information available.  I know I wrote two rather lengthy trip reports there of my Scotland adventures.

    Good luck!

I just took a fantastic trip to Scotland in late August '14. We booked through Hidden Links that is based in Atlanta, GA. Very helpful with course advice. Played Turnberry, Muirfield, St A, Carnoustie, St A and Royal Dornoch twice in 9 days. No glitches. Lodging was very good. Highly recommend if you want someone to do the leg work and take the stress out of the process.
