I have not played WGT regularly until the last five weeks. I have purchased five sleeves of the Srixon Z Star XV ball since 7/26/14. I don't play golf in real life. Yes,  I've hit more than a few into the water, lost them in bushes or out of bounds ... but does what WGT provide in the pro shop match up (durability wise) to what happens in real life to golf balls?

I also wonder that as a WGT (or reality) golf ball gets used more, does it fly as far, spin as much and roll on the green as well as when it's new?

    Thanks for your input.

WGT golf balls with 2.5 durability rating (which is the vast majority of mid- to high-end balls) last approximately three 18-hole rounds. I have never, ever, played the same real golf ball for 54 holes. If I make it to 36 I just toss it into the practice ball bucket. Scuffs etc. can have an impact on ball performance - although at my level of play I probably wouldn't notice.

Ball usage in WGT does not affect performance.

When I played real golf regularly, as long as I didn't lose a ball somehow, each ball only got played for 6 holes.

At 6 holes per ball and 3 balls per sleeve, that's 18 holes. After 18 holes those balls I still had left became practice balls.

Balls get out-of-round and lose compression when used repeatedly. I even rotated my practice balls to keep them as close in performance to new balls as possible.

So like mmyers I'm pretty happy that WGT 2.5 durability balls last for about 54 holes (120 hits, not counting putts made on the green).

FWIW - a box (12 golf balls/4 sleeves) Of Titleist Pro V1 golf balls has an MSRP of $62.00. That's $5.17 (= 517 WGT credits per ball).

$53 - Titleist Pro V1 Golf Balls (Pack of 12)

Very true ... rumor has it that the Taylormade Noodle is impossible to lose.  Drop one in the water and they are the first ones divers find.

Most games I'll use the ball through the entire round.  If I'm playing in a tourney, I'll switch out on the back 9.

I like the Pro V1x for most courses.  If I play a Jack Nicklaus course it's the Bridgestone Tour B330-S.

I usually get the Pro V1x for $44 a dozen.

I just buy and used what ever ball Wal-Mart has on sale at the time. I got a dozen Taylor made Lethals on close out for $30 and with my Wal-Mart employee 10% discount they were only $27.50.  When and if they put the Bridgestone 330 Rx or RX-S on sale I will grab them up quickly.

They do have one really big drawback, Fubar ... they will always find water!  Hit a Wilson "Sponge-Bob" ball over the water and guaranteed the shot will come up short and in the drink.  Or purposefully hit a fade and the ball will draw into the water ... and hit a draw to avoid water and the damn thing will fade.

HP might like them though ... they are yellow!

Sorry B2B, I am confused at the final price - does the discount exclude the tax in the original price? Just a matter of interest, and I am not being facetious,

As to the OP, usually I will use one new ball per round, barring a disaster - usually gets me through without scuffs etc, then it becomes a practice ball - this is my choice and habit.

Like Kat, the ProV1x is my choice of ball, but sadly here they are usually a lot more than $44 a dozen (often buy them off EBay or a mate sends me them).

The difference here, in 4 hours of playing you will chew through a sleeve easily, but still good value IMO.

I suppose the other critical differences are you can shop around for deals (as per B2B) as you do not have to go to the same pro shop as you do on WGT and in reality you usually get a bulk price for buying a dozen - this is not even an option here.

But that has never been asked for either........like left handed avatars, putting greens, driving ranges..........the list is endless.

Edit, thanks to everyone for mentioning SpongeBob - now that goddamn tune is driving me insane.
