i'm  interested in a longer driver not a ball that adds distance to each and every club....more unnecessary adjustments.we simply should be offered a driver!!

Well you buy a driver ONCE but the balls... well you know! They get you by "them"!

It`s like those famous "19 blades razors"..! They give you the razor for free (or almost) but you have to buy those blades high price every two weeks or so...

This week it's gonna be gas-in-the-car or blades ;-) Always this perpetual marketing model.

Help get us a respectable Driver or Lower the Ridiculous LEGEND ball  Price? The Balls do not last long enough for that Price!

The low durability and high prices are justified IMO by the fact that players who are eligible to those are normally players who accumulated so many credits in the RGs that they don't need to fork out a dime anymore to buy them.  So it's wearing out their credit stash instead!

It's all a matter of personal taste. If that kind of ball can help me gain 1 or 2 spots in the RGs, it would pay off and I would buy them.

I noticed that Ping has just retired the G-10 range of RL clubs and introduced a new line called K-15 (advertised on WGT).

This would be an opportunity for WGT to bring in a new K-15 line of virtual clubs that could include a longer driver, like 290 or 300 yards, at something like Level 100 or the like.

    What do you say?

Please don't tie it to level! If we're going to have a 290-300 yard driver, it really needs to be restricted to legends.

Excuse me if I have missed the point be isn't the reason for the Legend and other tiers to make it more challenging for the better, more experienced players and level the playing field when playing against those from lower tiers?  If equipment is available that simply counteracts this increase in difficulty what is the point of tiers?  In my opinion, as long as clubs are available that allow you to reach fairways and greens in regulation then there is no real reason for longer clubs. The reason Legends are playing catch-up after the tee shot just accounts for the fact that they are better so should be able to catch up through better approach and short game. It's not as bad a RL.  Consider playing against someone with a handicap only a couple of shots above yours and having to give them a shot advantage on some holes when they may actually hit the ball further than you!!!!  If you truly are 'Legends', you must accept that the Tier system is supposed to put you at a disadvantage when playing lower tier players.

I also think many players of all tiers who claim to want a realistic golf simulation need to accept that on some holes, in some conditions, PAR is a good score.  How many Tour Pros would pay good money for a 4 on STA #17 on a windy day?  In fact, how many would give good money for a round of 72 when the wind is up?  Just because you can't shoot sub-60 rounds more often than not does not mean this is a bad/unfair game.  In fact, I would argue the opposite, it's more realistic that way.

Having said that, I think the step change tier system has some serious issues and the sooner WGT can introduce a continuous handicap system similar to RL the better. If done successfully players of all ability and equipment could complete off the same tees and it still be competitive.  If they want this to be a realistic golf simulation why not have a handicap system as per real life golf?

For the record, I am recent Master who is waiting to get Master clubs (now L62/63) so I can reach fairways and greens in regulation of new tees.  For the moment, those I can't reach with driver and 3W I consider to be par 5s for me at the moment.

    Dave, an excellent post.

Folks have gotten used to the notion that subpar is par on WGT, which is, after all, fantasy golf, not RL.

So far I have never encountered an explanation from WGT why they do not use a 'handicap,' but an 'average score,' which is kind of an inverted handicap. I suspect the concern is that a straightforward handicap would be too easy to game, as it were, in the gaming world. In other words, handicaps are too precise, and it is easier to achieve general fairness through the tiers.

    Just a thought.

That said, of course I would like to have a 300-yard driver available to me personally, if and when I ever make Legend.

I would give you my 278-yard Taylormade driver if I could. I can't hit the side of a barn with that thing.

The reason why there is not a handicap system is because the best players are the ones who deserve to win. Simple as that. They are the best because they have practised more than other players and they deserve to be at the top of all tournaments, just like the best players are in real life.

I agree a handicap system would open the door for sandbaggers too,

    Exactly....

Now on the original thread topic.... I dont understand the point of backing up the tee boxes for legends if WGT is just gonna keep adding "legend drivers"

The end result is you get some new scenery, but its inevitably going to be a driver/wedge game again.

I like it just the way it is :)

    DRIVER/WEDGE = BORING

I know what your saying lilrob, it is boring, but I dont think 10yds further on average off the tee with a new driver results in driver/wedge golf for legends.  Most likely it takes one club off.  So instead of 3 iron or 3 wood into KIA 18, its 4 iron or hybrid, YAY.

The other option they can do is make it a risk/reward driver.  Like most on tour that can bomb drives, they also can end up on the wrong fairway.  Increase the length and decrease the accuracy.  I dont mean speed the crap out of the meter, just make it less accurate then the other drivers.  That will give people the choice of using it.  With this logic, on a course like Bethpage, I would probably stick with my driver, but on a course like KIA, I would probably play the new driver.

I would say "legends" only, but I really think they should start moving away from the same teirs and towards tier attributes.  Like a point system based on your player, it would be like the clubs, with 1 point of accuracy, 1 for distance, and so forth.  A legend player lets say has 6 pts and can use those to increase their stats.  i.e. 1.5 for distance, 1.5 for accuracy, 2 for spin, 1 for feel.  If you want to hit booming drives, you are gonna have to load that attribute up, but you will lose pts in other attributes.

Its tier specific, and would be a reward to move to the next level, still facing the new challenges of that tier, but also gain something, attribute points.
