I tried to replicate Spino's shot since it's the second time in about a month that a player complained about coming up short with a 3I into CCC #6.  Here's how I set up:

I'm the same distance away, I think in the exact same spot, with a slightly stronger wind that's blowing a bit to the left.  I'm using my guess as to what he meant by "one quarter" backspin, plus a tick more to be on the safe side (if I'm wrong, I want it to be in a way that produces a little extra carry distance).  R11 irons and L48 Nike as in the original.  I'm aiming a half grid (15 feet) to the left in an attempt to keep my balls dry.

I only had 1 1/2 L48 Nikes in my bag, so I tried to miss a bit left, but still only recorded the results of the "unintentional" dings.  I lost my first ball to a miss right after just a few attempts, before even dinging a single shot.  I managed to get 6 dings in all, with the final one going for a swim.  The first number is carry distance, the second is total distance:

The first five shots were unusually tight left-to-right, all landing right on line.  There was more variation in the distances, with a six-yard spread that's consistent with what I've found in my other tests.  None carried the 230 yards that Spino seemed to expect, although I believe it is possible that one in 10 or 20 might carry that far.   Two of my six dings would have drowned had I been aiming for the flag.

I can't draw a firm conclusion from such a small sample, yet I seriously doubt that another trial would yield anything more than another sleeve of balls in the water.

    Thanks bhoses

I was lucky enough to have a nice tailwind, also. It was the Nike 85s and this was the 1st time I tried the Cally L37 yellow balls. I think it was about 2/3 back spin.

As for the camera angles, I find that the one behind the green gives me the most accurate reading (when in doubt).

Agreed 100%, especially on that hole's approach. I've been told by more than one TL to check every camera angle available on every hole. As usual, good sound advice. Plus, when you do look at different angles, you get a better idea of the topography, which is really needed for courses such as Whistler. Well, maybe not really needed but it sure seems to help your score. ; - )

MK, as much hell as you've given me I should really let you have it on the flag animation. lol I'll leave it alone, though.

VEM is one of those things that we all just want to blame our bad shots on.

This is the very thing that people like to say that pisses me off. I'm not looking to blame anyone or anything for my game, or missed putt. I just happen to know that, on rare occasions, a perfectly hit putt that goes in 99% of the time, will veer at the hole at the last second and it's a miss.

If I don't ding a putt, even miss the ding by 1/100 of an inch, and I miss, I blame myself. If I've sunk the same putt 50 X, but on # 51 the ball acts possessed, I figure I've been scoring too well during that time and to keep my average from continuing to fall, all it takes is one miss.

But, to say to players here, who have several years more playing time than I, they can't tell if they miss a shot or if something odd happened, I consider an insult to those players. I'm not in their league yet, but I still know when it's my fault, so I know they know.

Oh, and what's this moaning over the BB 3 W? I've had mine since unlocking it and I have seen nothing like what some have described from the club. Shoot, I can even stick it between 231 yards-245 yards. Or, blast it, depending on conditions of course, 280.

VEM is alive and well. Wow! I don't know if it is all the new features and updates or somebody has access to the "EQUIPMENT MANIPULATION" program but this game is playing awfully strange lately.

    * Putts have abrupt breaks nearing the hole

    * Drives have been erratic off the tee

    *  AIM line is a "little" off ( A LOT OFF)

    * Approach shots - ANYTHING is possible

    * Club distance is a gamble. Club distance is ALL VEM. No doubt about it.

    * The game is playing like crap, period.

    Something is weird   : > /

    I will say this AGAIN!

You have manipulated this game beyond fun anymore WGT. I have played this game for OVER 5 YEARS and I have NEVER experience the "VEM" / DEVIATIONS I have over these last few weeks. My game has NEVER been anything to write home about but at the least I could pop off a couple rounds below par every now and again. NOW - I can barely break PAR! I haven't sunk anything over a 10 foot putt in more than 3 weeks. If I dont precisely hit my mark (and I'm not talking about hitting the ding every time) my ball either ends up in the rough or Im missing 4 foot putts.

I wrote 3 years ago that you would eventually start losing veteran players and players who fill you pockets with cash. Well? I was dead on. So what do you do? Charge $6.00  for 1 / ONE sleeve of gb's that barely last 2 rounds,,,LOL. WTF! Or charge $35.00 for a freaking VIRTUAL PUTTER.

I will now write this; I feel very strongly that the life expectancy for this game is limited. The day WILL COME when we will go to log in and the courses will be CLOSED INDEFINITELY. You can only manipulate this game so much WGT until one day  - IT WILL catch up to you. Im sure there are many of us who wouldn't be surprised that it already has. This allll goes without saying how gosh darn expensive you have made it. Expensive for the veteran players who already use the more expensive gb's and the higher end equipment. Lets be real, we are not going to go backwards and cut back on the quality of gb's or the standard of equipment.

Either way of anything, I made MY point. Let me end with - everything stated in this post come from my 5 YEARS experience and my statements are MY views and opinions.
