It should be safe to presume that the area that is clearly visible on the map to the left of the green on St. Andrews hole #17 is playable. It's on the map, it's inside the course boundaries, it is in fact a closely mown area between the #17 green and the teeing area for #18.

Yet WGT rules that OB and steals a premium golf ball to boot. Calling that area OB is damned perturbing, but to steal an expensive golf ball is beyond perturbing, it's theft.

Q - Is this a brazen concession by WGT that they are going to continue taking the liberty to disgregard USGA and PGA rules of golf regarding no on-course OBs?

Granted, this is nothing new, but it's still a pretty low gotcha, calling it OB where -- IRL -- it would be reasonable and sometimes perhaps even wise to play to.

But the worst of it -- claiming a golf ball that was clearly visible in a closely mown area on the hole map is the stuff of hucksters.

Is there any plan to fix this larcenous ground rule, WGT?

Excuse me, this Qs seem quite naive from a guy like you, with 4+ years of experience...

You should well know that here's an internal OOB on most of STA's holes.

In general, we should not carry any hope for wishful changes but take the game as it is. It's better for us, mentally. Believe me!

A bit off topic but St Andrews would not come under the jurisdiction of either of those bodies.

Along that path, there are no "PGA rules of golf" ;)

    (Hint: R&A ist the abbrev.)

I read in Yankee's post of "PGA golf rules" - no direct relation to your "jurisdiction".

    And nitpicking by me.

There's a problem right there. It's not safe to presume anything we don't already know for sure.

I've gone for the back pin(foolishly) and ended up in that general area plenty. A couple of times I was in the rough next to the 18 tee box. Played just fine and even saved a par or 2. "Once" I was on the 18th tee box. OB and ball gone. Learned that lesson pretty quick. I stopped going for the back pin on the fly. Now I play safe just a little long of the front pin and let it roll toward the back location.

You are not excused, and I'm not so naive as to not recognize a WGT shill trolling the forums.

Of course I knew that left of the map was OB, but the shot I was describing was not left of the map. My question to WGT is legitimate and doesn't warrant your smartass sniping.

Question to WGT : Why do you show on the map what would be a reasonable and even sensible (depending on wind and distance) landing area IRL only to penalize a player for good course management by such underhanded treachery?

And again, that OB gotcha in a perfectly playable (IRL) area is perturbing enough, but STEALING an expensive golf ball that landed on the hole map, inside the course, in closely mown grass, is an outright gouge. FIX IT!
