I am a Level 26 amateur.  I love playing on the WGT!  For the most part, I continue to improve each time I play.  However, I continue to be perplexed about my results when chipping or pitching within 10 yards of the green!!

I've read several community posts regarding this issue.  When I read Iconian's post from January of 2010, I thought that I had found the solution to my problem.  Unfortunately, her suggestions haven't worked for me.

I waste 4 -5 shots each round I play because of this deficiency of mine.  I currently am playing with the starter sandwedge and the Snake Eyes 685BX 60 deg wedge.  Do I need to upgrade to better clubs?

    I appreciate all suggestions!

Welcome to the club.  You'll probably get a bunch of very helpful responses.  My answer to you is keep practicing and learning what those clubs will do.

    YES, but not yet.

Beginner clubs are not easy to control, and the closer you get to the green the more evident this becomes.  Use a few minutes to practice those short shots every day and you will get better very quickly.

starter clubs are the pits... they are totally unreliable...you will not see improvement until you buy some better clubs

Yes. Wedges are extremely important for your short game and you don't have to break the bank to fix that. Those 2 low level ATV wedges are light years ahead of what you have and will last you a long time, not to mention make a drastic improvement in your control in using the shots you're trying to learn.

Don't let people tell you that pitch and chip shots are really important on here. I don't use either and I'm not alone in that.

That's o.k. for top equipment. But, lower level's wedges just have lower performance in flopping - those players have to rely on lower shots.

    +1

chips & pitch shots can easily run away from you if your landing area is on a downslope......learn the flop, full & punch shots with good balls (2.5 spin or better).they will stop really quickly.

I flop off the green...5 to 20 yards, full shots 20 to 35 yards, & punch shots 35 to 50 yards. I use the cleveland wedges....

    Good luck

Please add IMO to this as this is your opinion. Pitch and chip shots in the hands of practiced, experienced players trumps anything you can do with a flop or a choked swing. That's gamer stuff. A true golfer will develop all the shots so there's an appropriate one for every circumstance. Flops get up and down nice;pitches and chips go in.That is my opinion based on serious experience.
