    I know there are many variables to the answer, but do you adjust power or change the spin on the ball to make slight distance changes with full shots.  Especially between no spin (mid-ball) and top spin.  Just looking for others thoughts on the subject.

    I tend to use full backspin on a lot of my shots, so to reduce the distance I will reduce the power. If the required yardage for the shot is a touch over what I think I can achieve with full backspin and full power then I will reduce the spin for a few extra yards, but of course it all depends on the conditions and terrain.

    If I have a 90 yard shot to pin and my wedge has a distance of 90 and the green is flat then I will use a full shot with full backspin.

    If its 92 yards to the pin then I leave the dot on the ball at centre and hit a full shot

    If its at 94 yards to the pin I use full forward spin & full power.

    But this all depends on the conditions and what type of ball and clubs you have

    So true, very true. It is the ongoing adventure of trying different ideas. Over time, I noticed most all of the my saved replays had commonality in the ball hitting then rolling forward into the hole and so I tend to adhere to that formula. The irons and balls I use are very tender to slight adjustments of red-dot movement. It made me fearful of intense back-spin use. Only recently have I began to venture in reverse at times hitting more club and more back-spin...but still in the tinker stage. ;-}

    Different spins are good to get to know for each club. Comes in handy when you're in between clubs.

    eg  Just basic figures and depending on wind/elevation on green.

    Nike (top Level) 6 Iron (180)  with no spin  186 yrds...  little b/spin 182..  Using full b/spin can be a bit dodgy with that club....lol

    I use no b/spin with my Cle Wedges, but I do use t/spin to gain that little bit more yardage.

    I also use slight b/spin off the Tee using driver when there is a Tailwind to gain a little distance  and full b/spin with driver to get over Tree's and to try and stop ball quicker on fairway.

    Just basic things I do. Different clubs, balls and how you hit your shots can be totally different.

    I saw this a long time ago and use it when figuring out club distances. Set up a practice game at Kiawah, make sure its low wind :-)   Then just hit the ball back and forth on the 1st hole and take notes how far each club goes with spin or no spin and different power levels. Don't use the mulligan though, as it counts 3 hits for every 2 on ball wear.

    Midball is not actually no-spin.

    With good wedges and leaving the indicator mid-ball and landing on the green the ball can still 'back up' if the ball lands on a flat or slight slope back towards the hit from lie or if there is a wind in your face.

    I use full BS on all my Iron shots.  This is how I mapped them.  full BS keeps the rollout down and makes it easier for me to adjust my power when the window of yardage rollout is small.  with no BS,  you are then more affected by green speed, terrain changes, etc which makes your club/shot selection a little more "difficult"

    On most wedge shots, I don't need to adjust the spin.
