Proper course management. As Lily said a perfectly dinged 5 iron when a 6 iron should have been hit even with a perfect ding is still a bad shot. You have to know which club to hit with the correct spin and aim and at times when to actually hit away from the  green or at least away from the pin.  I am not a great player but both of my stroke play hole-in-ones were intentionally hit slightly late to compensate for a very slight cross wind.Sure if everything else is right then a perfect ding will make a great shot . Where missing the ding really hurts is when you really miss it either way too early or way too late. And as for me, it depends. Some days I can play the tour-sd ball with no feel and consistently ding the meter and other days I can't hit the ding at all even with one of the GI3 balls. On those days when the ding just isn't there you have to improvise to play well and score well. Bit it ca be done.

It might be interesting, but most likely of no value. Most of the best players miss the white line on purpose, depending upon the wind direction and the shape of the shot they wish to perform, and most players, when putting, hit either early or late to counteract the break.

    Definitely agreed!   : )
