lvl 93 !!

However, I do have meter speed issues so - does a lower level ball compensate for the extra spin I get with the highest level nike balls when using 97's?Or is it just a case of 'it's worth relearning the distances with the 97's'?

  I'm obviously not Jim but I use the L97 Nike irons with the L33 Cally ball and find it works great.  You'll need a bit of time to get used to the irons but I think it's worth it.  Holes like BPB #5 become so much easier with the extra spin they produce.

  For me that ball offers the best performance for the price.

  Struggled with the cally's - swing speed too fast for my sober brain (will try again later tonight after beer intake lol) but used a lower grade Nike and that was working a lot better. I think my problem is I use full spin most of the time - so the lower ball definitely softens that a bit. Thanks again - Happy Friday!

  IMO, the spin is getting you in trouble. Not the spin the clubs or ball have, the spin YOU put on the ball. Routinely using back spin plays havoc with the distances in winds and when you miss the ding. The better the ball, the worse this gets. 

  The slower meter of the Nikes coupled with a ball like what MM and I use is a wash compared to the R11's and a slower meter ball. What isn't a wash is what happens when you miss the ding. Hits that I can get away with cause you major grief. 

  The Nikes have more accuracy than the R11's across the board but what's really different is the 6-PW and the way they land without using any spin. Slight chokes with prudent use of partial spin to control rollout afford you the luxury of being able to control yardages quite effectively. Couple that with a ball that plays really well without the "gotta dingit" restriction makes for a less stressful experience. In other words, you can be lazy and get away with it. Any port in a deviation storm. LOL

  You already have the game, you're a TL with good performance stats so this probably boils down to just different playing styles. I could see where you might be cemented into the game you developed. I just believe backing off the spin, using a cheaper ball and letting the clubs do what they do gets good results.

  Can those Nikes stay below the hole on the 9th @ Oakmont or the 15th @ Bethpage Black? That alone would make them worth the purchase price as far as I'm concerned LOL.

  As for myself, I currently own both the Rocket Bladez and the R11s, but I have considered the 85 Nikes as well. On paper they have (slightly) more forgiveness and a (slightly) more favorable meter than the Bladez, but 3,000 quid is quite a punch to the gut - not to mention the coin purse, Natch - for what may amount to very minimal in game performance. I have tried out the Nikes once or twice during free rental weekends.  I don't recall any OMGWTF shots or rounds, but I don't think I was playing lights out darts to the pin golf, either. The Bladez have taken me to Tour  Master, although it did take me considerably longer than most to get there. If I could ever just figure out the damn putting, they just might take me to Legend as well.

  Thanks for such a detailed response, really appreciate that. A couple of our CC uber TL's have been saying the same kind of thing (I know..should have listened!) so I have been starting to use a little less spin. As you say though, you get kind of hooked into your own style - and after so many rounds you get to know the distances (I don't keep notes / yardages etc - see it, hit it lol) so it's a big relearning exercise.

  However...lazy always works for me every time so I need to persevere! As does anything that helps when I choke (regularly) lol. Thanks again mate - swing easy. :)

  How about RG's that were level specific? That might be a decent compromise and spread the RG credits around. Have tournaments with a level cap on them. 

   

  How about no. Some of us in the low to mid 90s can compete just fine in the RGs

  Not saying you can't but there's a slew of players that don't do RGs simply because of the equipment issue-Legends that can handle the game but are handcuffed because of how long it takes to get to levels where they can get the equipment everybody else they're playing against has.

  How would level specific RGs affect you?

  Fewer players would play those specific RGs, taking them longer to fill up, resulting in me winning fewer credits. I'd rather keep the open RGs

  It's possible to win with inferior equipment. Not having any RG problems using my L86 versa vs the others with L96 versa, or the shorter SLDR driver. With the inferior equipment, one must strategize a bit better to complete

  I disagree. How many players don't play because of the equipment? I imagine if they had a level 93 max RG it would fill up in a heartbeat. Would be interesting to find out.
