I'm sure this has been written about ad nauseum, but something has to be done about the ridiculous club selections the game makes automatically. While I almost always double-check just to be sure, in any kind of game with a timer it is way too easy to get pressured into forgetting to verify it since it seems like it should be so obvious.

I cant count the times I've lost matches due to the caddy automatically selecting my 80 yard wedge, or even my 110 pitching wedge, for a 15 yard sand shot or a 30 yard approach when I have a 60 yard wedge that is clearly and obviously the right choice.

I understand that the caddy will recommend what it thinks is a logical choice but not setting anything up at all automatically would be far preferable to having the wrong thing set. If I had to select the shot type and club I want at least I would know i have to include everything before I can make a shot.

I'm tired of losing strokes to balls going over greens or into traps or water or the woods. I'm tired of losing balls over it. And I'm especially tired of losing credits in matches.

Please, just take the automatic club selection totally out of the game. Few of us real life players have caddies to hand us clubs and even those who do would never have a caddy hand them a different club than what was wanted for the shot being played. If I pick the wrong club, shame on me but please don't hand me the wrong one while I'm focusing on how I need to line up and make my shot in 45 seconds.

I feel your pain - it's the same for all players.

Why not use your fantasy, imagine there is no preselection. Then, go through every step of pre-shot routine and set it to your liking. Just perfect!

I bet it would be more work than to go from a bad preselection. Just never believe that bloke of Caddie - never!

Talking about changes, WGT themselves started a thread about it - look when!

A ton of the requested feedback was given but it was neither worth a single comment nor a thank you. This is the way they treat their customers :(

Guess what changed in the meantime?

    ^ that much.

    ad nauseum is right. ;)

Regardless of the time on the shot clock, it's shame on the player if we hit the wrong club as a result of the caddie.

If we have no caddie, it still takes the same amount of time to pick the club and arm it as it does to change the wrong club a caddie suggests. I use a pre-shot routine of always clicking on the club I want even if the caddie has already suggested the same club. Do it with the putter scales as well. No more wrong clubs or putter scales unless I make the mistake.

I actually like the caddie suggestions because I have 4 sets of clubs and can't exactly remember the distance per set by club name(5i, 9i). i just look at the distance rating of whatever I'm using at the time and make adjustments from there.

I'm glad you like it. You're the first person I've talked to who does. Not all of us have such perfect concentration on every shot with a shot timer ticking away.

I agree that it takes as much time to select one as to verify the club recommended but if everyone had to select their clubs people wouldn't set 30 and 45 second shot timers. Short of just declining a match you play with the shot timer that comes with the invite.

For people like you who do like it, since the software already exists, it would be very simple to toggle it on or off to preference in the options menu like all the other stuff. I, for instance, toggle my Shot Pal on while toggling the Putter Pal off because I got used to the distances from certain places on the meter before I had the Putter Pal available and the PP just confuses the issue for me now. If I ever change putters though, to something with a different meter, I'll probably toggle the PP on and learn the distances from that rather than recreating my formulas.

Add me - I appreciate to have a preset though I frequently dislike the outcome.

Please tell me, which should be the starting point for "no selection"? Driver? Wedge? Putter? Only one choice for all situations!

IMHO, concentration and time necessary would not be less without preselection, and with some experience, my guesses about the amount of deviation become better ;)

I would propose not having any starting point at all. Pick the type of shot, then pick the distance you want. Or at least have the option to work from there.

For me, aside from driver tee shots and fairway drives of over 250 yards I find that the recommendation is wrong--at least for me--probably 90% of the time. Since I have to change almost every shot I'd personally rather not have the possibility of overlooking that it handed me the wrong club or set up the wrong shot type.

Having thought about it more after my original  post, I would suggest rather my altered position above, that we be allowed to toggle automatic club and shot type selection on or off. For those who like it, use it. For those of us who don't, let us have the option to not use it. Nobody should be forced to use a caddy they don't want.

I dont pay any attention to the clubs the AC selects. I figure my distance, shot type, then choose my club. It works for Me anyway. It has gotten me on the shot type, but thats my fault for not checking

    Maybe we do it differently.

I use the mousewheel to set up the clubs. Most of the time it's one or two notches away from the proposal. Starting from "zero" would probably be longer, further away. OTOH, I'd be glad to have "Full shot" as a constant selection, avoiding the wrong chips and pitches.

So, you may dream on of a choice - good luck!

Yes, with no club. It could be displayed with no club in the avatar's hand until a club is selected, then when the shot type is select, the avatar takes the proper address position.
