Yes folks, sorry to have been so absent. I have indeed been incredibly busy IRL working on projects for my kids' school.

The spreadsheet is up-to-date through the first 3 weeks, and I was hoping we'd get credit allocations for last week's Kiawah tourney soon so I can capture and input the leaderboards just once instead of twice. The current pattern of payouts 8-10 days after the tourney close is a bit of a drag... :(

By early next week my life should start to return to some kind of normal, and I hope to catch up then with a proper report on the Tour to date, plus some plans for a January event.

Thanks for putting in the time, Corwyn!  Also, those of us in the UELRG community owe you a huge debt of gratitude for staying on top of the action and, well, just giving us something fun to do in our spare time.  I hope you'll have more of that soon!.

    Thanks, Corwyn!

I didn't end up missing any events after all, though I did rush through a little faster than usual and ended up with somewhat substandard scores. At Kiawah I stood at -8 through 15 and then played the last three holes in +1 (thanks partly to a flashing red lie after missing the green on 18). Still, any score is better than no score.

So yesterday during the CC event I played a round but switched to some old ball from the bottom of my bag so I wouldn't waste any credits on the event. I played Congressional back 9 and plunked the ball in the water on the 18th.

Today, of course, I didn't check my equipment before starting the UEL event. Why would I? I never switch balls.

I was more than a little dismayed at seeing a WGT starter ball appear on the first tee. But on a single play event, there's no recourse, so I was forced to make the best of it.

I birdied 1 and 3 after what normally would be considered mediocre to poor wedge approaches (24 and 11 feet, respectively). My first danger came on 4 when I misplayed the sidewind and hit my drive a whopping 247 yards into the right rough. I failed to get my 3-iron layup on to the fairway, but then hit this beauty to salvage a par.

With starter balls, my average approach was 24 feet. That doesn't make for a lot of birdie chances. The rest of the front nine consisted of routine pars (thanks partly to a poor layup on the now-unreachable 5th) and a simple birdie on 9 after a good wedge.

I never did figure out the distances for my pitching wedge. This hurt me on 7, 10, and 12, all of which could have been birdied with better approaches. But I sank a putt from the fringe on 11 to make up a bit.

I hit a pretty good approach on 13 but failed to capitalize, then my 3w on 14 wandered left and found a greenside pot bunker. My sand shot was less than successful. But my pitch from a strong left-to-right lie worked a little better.

My approach to 15 was not good, and I missed the ding on my 35-foot putt. It went better than expected. On 16 I pushed a pretty straight putt right.

Then the Road Hole. It's never easy even with full preparation. With starter balls and a cross-headwind, it's a circus. My drive used the downslope from the hotel to run out to 277 yards, but on a downhill-sidehill lie at 239 yards out. But the wind and the hill were both right-to-left, clearing the way for a low running hook that managed to hang on to the back of the green. I missed the putt by a good 2.5 feet on the low side, but a par on 17 is a victory.

On 18 I again misjudged a pitching wedge, but salvaged some semblance of victory with a nice putt for a bogey-free 66.

All in all, the round took well over an hour and was the hardest I remember working in a WGT game.

I saw your post so I figured I'd play the UEL on St A with a starter ball as well. That turned out to be pretty stupid. Shot a 68 with 4 bogeys. ;(

... I was hoping we'd get credit allocations for last week's Kiawah tourney soon ... The current pattern of payouts 8-10 days after the tourney close is a bit of a drag... :(

Well, we've gotten a payout today, so I've updated the spreadsheet . Funnily enough though, wk45 @ St. Andrews has been paid out (just 3 days after tourney close) before wk44 @ Kiawah, which remains outstanding. So, it's still a little hard still to get a real sense of where everyone stands...

Things of note: fmagnets wins his first event (after placing 3rd, 3rd, 2nd, 4th in prior weeks), and goes top of the TL credits standings. xfipro won twice in just 3 starts, and FairwayRuepel68 also has 2 wins (and a 2nd).

In Legend tier, emmalinks and newcomer JoeMaverick both have 2 wins, while lisalovesthesun took the win in the other week.

Also, a couple of people have been asking about the Points Standings: TL versionL version. I included them when I first designed the spreadsheet trying to match the approach the flat-lie Ryder Cup had followed in determining teams. However, I chose a different selection method in the end, based on a combination of places for credits earned and scores relative to par, dropping the points approach altogether. At this stage, it's more work to take it out of the Tour spreadsheet templates than leave it in (although I do realize that it's another calculation across various sheets that is slowing down the sheet performance).

So, suffice to say, Points will NOT be a criteria for the next UEL Ryder Cup event. The team selection will be based on the same method as for the Pinehurst event (see second post here)...

... and, although I haven't time right now to launch the forum post about it and try and pin down dates (hopefully soon...), I'm currently thinking of a mid-January event probably at Olympic (as our most recent and challenging UEL course that hasn't had an UEL Ryder Cup).

I like it. Olympic is much more fun in UEL than Pinehurst is.

You have an unusual definition of fun ;)

I think Olympic is considerably more challenging, but fun.....really.....lol
