Lost track of how many times I have had this happen: example: 17 foot putt with 2 inches up. I do my mental calculations, hit the ding perfectly, and scream as ball zooms past the hole. The putt meter had defaulted to the 50 foot meter instead of the 25!  WHY?

Seems like if I miss ding one click early, I loose a few yard, but if I miss one click late, I gain a few yards. Anyone else get this?

I have played hundreds of different course in the 35 years of my golf career. No matter how severe the slope of the greens are on the particular course I am playing, I still will have a few 10 foot putts that are dead straight.  Almost never see that on the WGT courses.

I still enjoy WGT and think it is the best simulator available, especially for the price, but I wish Links was still around, and would love to see what it would be  like with all the advances in the gaming world.

May all your drives be long and all your putts be short.

Excuse me, but you were inattentive in your pre-shot routine. It includes to check every detail, most of all club & scale selection. After a few - ehm, 2100, rounds, I usually know the necessary correction of the next shot as soon as the ball stops. In putting, it's most important to see if the ball lands on the fringe => big scale!

And, there are some dead straight putts, starting with STA#1.

I've noted some similar observations about the difference (path and distance) between a pulled putt and a pushed putt (pre-ding & past ding).

I've questioned WGT in the forums of the physics of spin, or maybe the magnus effect, and wondered if they are programmed into the game.

Sometimes, I've seen a pre-ding putt's 'spin' stall out the ball quicker than a post-ding putt. That's what I meant by posting below*.

Sometimes, a drive 'hook' may travel different compared to a 'slice'. Then, they are different, more so, when the wind is reversed. (the same may apply to a putt, push or pulled, against the slope of a green - then, differently, again, when the slope is reversed!)

Never a dull moment, but simply put, I take note of the results of pre/post ding shots with/against the wind/slopes.

Further observations may suggest that a dive 'hook' against the crosswind (L-R) may increase yardage by the Magnus effect, and/or trajectory and aerodynamic lift, etc. , and I've seen in my my driver tests , and at other times, a hook go farther than a dinged shot.

Yet, when the ball is on the ground, the slope of the grass doesn't act on a ball the same as a ball in the air, no lift is involved, so contradictorily a pre-ding putt against..may be shorter. (I'm still testing)

The off-ding effects of a 'push' (past ding) against a slope R-to-L compared to an off-ding 'pull' (pre ding) against a slope L-to-R seem to be somewhat different so if you choose to apply the method be sure to observe the difference during trials.

Too have random thoughts, but if spoken aloud, I would cop many a slap.....but I digress.

As already stated, pre shot routine will stop these "silly" shots.

This game is designed to be hard to master. How many golf sims have you played, mastered really quickly and stopped playing?

You can score well in this game, with practice, experience and a bit of luck (in my case, a lot of luck) but this will not happen quickly, and just as you think you have it sussed, you tier up - bringing new challenges.

Having a straight putt is often down to your knowledge of the greens - in other words, where to hit the approach to and having the skills to do so (this part is beyond me lol).

Also bear in mind these are some of the worlds best courses, they are not courses a hack could play well and I have been lucky insofar as I have played 2 of the courses in real life - and the greens are no easier in real life, in fact harder IMO. In fact looking at my score history, this game is marginally easier in this game than real life LOL

Yep. I was inattentive, or in a hurry, or pissed cause of the 8 i made on last hole, or just brain dead. I was just bemoaning the fact that game seems to know that it's the right moment to randomly slip the un-needed scale in on me..............
