You are incorrect on many levels. It is not obligatory for you to buy any piece of equipment - you can just play for the fun of it. The meter should run smoothly on around 98% of shots - if not try these suggestions kindly posted by Sgt and YankeeJim on another thread http://www.wgt.com/forums/p/26695/150406.aspx#150406

SHOULD being the operative phrase.  Bottom line is me and countless others have jumped through every hoop trying to solve the puzzle to no avail.  My system, that I've done everything I can to improve, will never be able to handle the game.  In last 2 weeks I've tracked meter issues and get a problem around 14% of shots.  Gets worse with every update too.  Used to infuriate me but now just purely discouraging knowing it's time to leave and find some other way to waste my evening hours.  That said, no pity party for me please.  I've had a blast here and won some really nice things in the process.

I've come to the realization that I'm pretty much screwed and likely moving on upon completion of the Ryder Cup.  Most laptops simply can't handle the stress and unfortunately that's all I have access to.  The high def graphics of this game make it rather exclusionary so that only people with desktops or super high end laptops can play without supreme interference from the meter.  There are a few exceptions but not many.  Think I spend more time now tinkering with system to achieve an acceptable level of performance than I do actually playing the game.

I just can't figure out why machine can run every single other game I've ever tried without any issue.

Mohuyu, if you only have meter blips 2% of the time consider yourself one of the very fortunate few.

Sorry to hear about that Jake but I was always under the illusion that I had it worst.. I'm running WGT on a 2yr old, bottom of the range laptop and almost never get meter freezes. The only problems that I seem to get are loading issues which seem to have dissappeared nowadays.

    Edge,

I certainly appreciate the kind words.  Regarding scores, yes I have posted some pretty good ones but did you happen to see how many WD from Ready Gos.  It's about a 2 post to 1 drop ratio these days.  Also almost everyone of those good scores posted had monumental blip in it...for instance first round of this week's premium multiround I posted a 58 with a freaking double bogey on 14 because of 2 freezes in a row.

I can still compete at a fairly high level even with the issues but this game is supposed to be fun.  Posting 30 with 2 freezes knowing it should have been a 28 isn't fun to me.  I don't have delusions of grandeur and don't expect to go low every time but can't get with round after round screwed because my comp can't handle the game.  Hell I've had games where the meter is fine and still only shoot 33 but enjoy those games much more than going low with a crappy meter.

Investigated upgrading my video card but my IT person strongly suggested I don't on laptop as it usually causes serious issues.  Going to try a hard drive reformat and clean install of Windows 7 from Vista.  That's my last ditch effort.

Don't get me wrong, if reformat doesn't work, I'll stick be checking back to see if anything has improved as I am a total WGT junkie, but my slightly OCD ways are having a hard time accepting meter performance I would describe as putrid.

BTW, my old 5 year old Dell laptop that was way below suggested specs ran the game without issue last summer and fall.  Then every update buried me a little more.  I now have an 8 month old laptop well above suggested specs that most people would hurl like a frisbee if they had to endure a game on.

Keep giving it your best Edge.  You're one of the good guys!

Hi Jake,I have dual boot sytem its very easy to do..I would adivse you to get an XP Pro disc and dual boot your fresh hard drive with both windows 7 and XP ,In my experience XP runs much better than windows 7 on wgt.Its easy to do you just partition your hard drive and give say 80 gig of space to XP,,iIf you do this, install XP first and windows 7 next,,it will be easier that way because windows 7 is much clever,Then you can browse as much as you like and when you play on wgt just use XP ,This way you have a fresh system to play with and keep as little on it as possible.Hope this works for you ,it helped me, but i will still get some meter problems now and again,,

Possibly the best part of playing PC games is that you're forced to learn a bit of tech to make things work.

Ever since my 1984 Commodore 64 I've been learning, and its makes gaming more fun to boot.

That is, of course, if you can be bothered....
