If the lower number is slower, then how much harder do you have to hit the ball??

mathia what I did - which was trying to keep it simple - was just to figure out the percentage change in speeds and adjust accordingly. If for example you went from green speed 10 to 9, add about 10% to your distance. If you have a 10 foot putt on a speed 9 green and you are used to speed 10, hit it based on how you would hit an 11 footer. If you were going to a faster green, say from speed 10 to speed 12, subtract about 20%. So if you had a 10 footer on a speed 12 green and you are used to speed 10, hit it about the same as you would hit an 8 foot putt.

Once you hit a few, you can adjust to get a more precise distance, and like many other parts of this game, it takes practice and observation.

Hey I may be wrong about simply figuring out the percentage difference in speeds...I sure am no expert and don't want to give out bad info...it's just that this seems to work for me.

I use the tables concerning Daytona with some success (it's up again in the forums these days).

They say, with "standard 8" being 100 %, the other paces are (on even grounds):

    - slow 7 = 90%
    - fast 9 = 110 %,
    - very fast 10 = 120 %,
    - tourney 11 = 130% ("TM greens"),
    - tourney 12 = 135 % ("Legend greens"),
    - Championship 13 = 140 % ("TL greens")

And I use a base of 10 (very fast) for my figuring. That is, 9 (fast) I add 10% to the distance...11 (tour master) I take 10% off the distance, etc. I am not saying anyone's method is better or worse...on the contrary, I am wondering if what I use is ok.

Guess it's also "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"...it seems to work for me, specially on long lag putts.

Now where I have problems are with those damn short putts with a big break...%$#$%@!!!

I guess that's the same as in real golf for many players.
