Not mine I'm happy to say, but these two are recent putts from a couple of guys in our CC - your thoughts please...

Means they hit them way too hard, probably with 2.5ft of power or more. It is not very well rendered graphically, but those replays are what it looks like when that happens.

I will politely disagree with the above , the 1st replay (Congo from 2 inches) was indeed mine and I hit the putt to NO more than 6 inches.

    Good Luck out there !

I will take FMags scenario - as this has happened to me.

You may have hit thinking 6 inches power but in my case the meter has changed (and has happened a few times - I think by accidently moving the scroll wheel) and how often do you make a double check on such a short putt? In my case - these days nearly always lol.

It is possible it is a bug but IMO unlikely, that said did you submit a report?

Take the flag out. First one hops a bit off the far lip. Much easier to hit too hard on downhill putts.

Gotta love those alternate views...from a thousand feet up.  Satellite imaging could get closer!

This is what a putt looks like, by hitting it too hard.   putt hit too hard    I hit this putt for 6ft. Those 2 replays were not hit too hard IMO...

Not relevant I'm afraid. Both the putts in question were on severely downsloping greens, so the back lip is lower than the ball. The putt you have demonstrated is uphill, so the putt is crashing into the back lip which is higher so is acting as more of a cushion.

I tried to get 2in above the hole on the first 5 at Merion and failed because the putts kept dropping. This vid is from hole 6, which is the least sloping pin location of the holes I played. 3.5ft of power down to 3.3ft ghosted over, 3.2ft dropped. On a more downhill pin location, like the two putts in question, this value would be lower. It should also be noted that there are varying degrees of 2in from the hole. Overhanging the lip still rounds up to 2in. You can see that both the putts in question were severely overhanging, closer than the test putts I hit in the vid. This phenomenon has been observed with as little as 2.5ft of power, and will be when the ball is both overhanging and on a severe downslope.

The player that thinks he only hit it 0.6in is using a putter with a lowest scale of 25ft. This would be 2.4% of power, which is very hard to achieve! Perhaps he means the putt only travelled a few inches. This is because it smacks into the back lip and dribbles over, making it look like the putt has dribbled dead weight over the hole.

Your probably spot on with your analogy fmagnets. But the problem is we don't see missed putts like this every day here, it's every 3 months or so.

Imo again it's wgt tweaking the game or in this case the putting. And in a few days after there tweak things go back to  normal, you won't see missed putts like this for awhile.

Check your link to your vid,  it wasn't coming up either. And I'll throw this one in for chit's and giggles..   not bad on champion greens.

Thanks, link fixed - not sure how that got messed up!! The reason we don't see these too often is because it is spectacularly difficult to get a putt to stop hanging over the top lip of the hole on such an extreme downhill slope. And then the player has to hit the next putt with an unnecessary amount of power too.
