I have been playing around w/ high wind conditions to find how much to move my aim to compensate fo 20-30mph winds. The interesting thing is the inconsistency of the same dinged shot over and over but yielding different results--I am ALL for being able to spin the ball right or left like english on a cue ball(or like real golf-i.e. fades, draws). Now I don't use the expensive clubs (except for driver and woods)-so I may be missing something here-I would be interested in your comments!--jetjon

    2 things here,

    1. Precision stats for the clubs you are using
    2. wind speed is not exact, hence 20-23mph

I get that part, but, I still find it hard to find the "good" spot to aim for-too many times the same wind(albeit variable),yields such a dramatic outcome ( on the green or not). I still think shot shaping would make the game a whole lot more fun and interesting. Remember, this really shows up in HIGH wind conditions.

Extremely simple fix and this is gospel, has been from day 1. A miss to the first line on either side of the ding into the wind will straighten the shot out at the cost of distance. I only use it off the tee in really high winds. I find dinging shots you aimed in high winds doesn't get as good a result as a partial aim and a miss into that wind. Misses on the wrong side of the ding (downwind) will always get the full effect of the wind and you don't get credit for where you aimed-it's like directly off the club.

Something fun to try in the right spots is to aim accordingly and miss WITH the wind. In other words, on a left to right wind, aim way left and miss late-get that ball going with the wind.  :-)

I don't have a formula or anything.  I try to imagine standing over the ball and 'feel' the wind.  Imagine that you are throwing a baseball and imagine how the wind will affect it.  Thru the years I have gotten a passable feeling for the high side winds.

The biggest problem with this method is I forget just how strong a 10+mph wind really feels like.  Real problem with higher winds because we don't get that kind of a steady wind in my area.

In this game the wind speed indicators don't mean that the wind is constant.  It could be steady at more or less than indicated.

Just remember to 'place' yourself over the ball and visualize where it will go.

Better clubs will make it easier to get a more consistent shot, but there are many very good players that use starter equipment.  As with all equipment on the site, you must get used to them.  Learn their strengths and weaknesses and adjust as needed.

To avoid high wind in games, join a country club where tournaments can be created how ever the person wants to.  In the Country club I belong to, The Old Duffers Retreat, we don't usually create tournaments with high winds.  We don't like them.

Keep trying, this is not an easy game to master, read thru the forum posts and ask questions here in the forum.

    Good hitting.

I really have a hard time w/starter clubs stopping the ball downwind and have to simply roll it to the green if that shot is availible like St Andrews etc.

I still wish we could manipulate the ball more --I really appreciate the replies!--Jetjon

You can, you just need the right stuff and you don't need to go broke getting it. The way this game is set up you would need a ball that has spin and clubs that can impart that spin. Look at the attributes of the clubs and balls and use ones that have a number of dots in the spin column.

Those CG wedges I mentioned and a cheaper ball like the 33 Callaway will definitely let you manipulate your shots.

All that I can find is backspin-I'm really wanting right to left or draw and fade type ball control. In real golf hitting a fade to the right when the wind is right to left instantly stops the ball on the green as the the ball is going INTO the wind when it lands. Also, I agree w/your hitting off the ding statement, I find that moving the aim point AND mis-hitting off the ding more or less with your aim point seems to work better than just trying to ding the shot. It doesn't make sense but it works!

This is in another thread, but this doesn't seem to work anymore, well not consistently like it used to. I use this method all the time, in fact found it more reliable than moving the bloody arrow. Now, with my Nike 85 driver, if I move into the wind, the ball cuts right into it and more often than not goes right where it's aimed. Miss with the wind and the ball stands a real chance of going OOB's on tight courses. I now have to do a combo deal, little bit of both to straighten out drives in wind.

The only caveat I would say with 'bending' shots is that because you're not actually slicing the ball as you would with a real club as in drawing the club. Your slice starts right from the moment you hit the ball so if you're going say around trees that are close to the box, you kinda have to aim away from them, opposite. Does work, just have to play around with it.

Definitely something to learn that's for sure. It is too bad they don't have push/pull on the ball coded into the game, because it would be nice in some of the high wind tourney's to be able to bring the ball around into the green instead of relying on drift. But game can only have so much sophistication built into it.

I agree! On course's that trees line the hole, it be SO much fun to curve around those things even if it was hard to figure out-in reality- w/this game, the wind is your ONLY curve-
