Apologize if this is obvious, but when you are on approach - say 130 yds. out, how can I turn the Green grid on? Or at least see the slope of the green somewhere? Even when I'm pitching from 20 yds. it does not always turn on.

It won't stay on unless you're aiming. It's not like the grid you see when putting.You can use the pitch view for an approach shot to get that grid but you have to hold the mouse button down. Just don't forget to switch back to your regular shot before you swing.
Select Chip, Pitch or Flop shot mode to see the grid on the green from the fairway.
You can move the grid around and you can use the grid as an aid for compensating your aim point for wind.
