Is a perfect game possible? It doesn't seem to be for me. I've been so close so many times, but to have the meter spike at least once and have a WTF shot at least once...to end up with 2 pars instead of birdies.

not saying i never have shot -9 or -18, I have but to consistently shoot those scores like some players seems like a pipe dream.

    Oh well, happy shooting.

    Heath

Either you try on, or you don't.

    Your choice.

    What is a 'perfect' game?

    18 holes and a score of 18?

Or is a 'perfect' game making birdie on every hole. Or making eagle on each hole (a HIO on a par 3).

An albatross (double eagle) is 3 under on a single hole (an HIO on a par 4) and 4 under on a single hole is a HIO on a par 5 - called a Condor.

Perfect games, as you call them, are possible. I'm greatful when they do come along. Sure there's players here who shoot them more consistently than me and thats because they're better than i am. I'm happy to play for top 10's and if the odd win comes then great.

It's annoying when 28's could of been 27's or 26's due to meter spikes but that's just the way the game is.

You're a great player Heath. You're good enough to finish inside the top 10 in RG's consistently. Don't beat yourself up about it and take it for what is. Only then will you become more consistent with your scoring.

    The concept of a "perfect game" is open to definition because of variables. Long ago, after several months in, I carded a 27 at Kiawah back nine; every fairway, every green, 9 putts, all starter clubs & ball. Since the par 5's were both 3-shot approach holes I considered it a "perfect round". Since then I have carded 3 25's there, all with 2 eagles & 7 birdies. Also considered "perfect" by me because the par 5's were reachable in two. A while back, same Kiawah back nine, I carded 3 eagles & 6 birdies for a 24 and I don't know what to call it. ;-}

Agreed that it's all in the definition and your ability - when I started the perfect round was all fairways hit, all greens in regulation and no bogies....

Damn I thought if it was a par 36 and I shot a 36 then I had the perfect game. I have set my sights way too low.

I guess that everyone has their opinion of a perfect game.   The ultimate perfect game would of course be 18 aces but that is not possible on WGT.

I don't think that any of us will ever achieve a truly perfect game.   My best game, in terms of perfection was the first round of the US Open at Pinehurst in which I carded a 55.

Even in that round of 15 birdies, I had 3 pars and didn't eagle either of the par 5's or ace any of the par 3's.   That means it obviously could have been better.   I missed 3 putts in that round, one of which was inside of 6 feet.   There were at least 3 irons shots that I recall landing outside of 15 feet and I only made one of them.

So I guess that even when you finish your 'perfect round' you are going to look back and see that it could have been even more perfect.

Perfect by definition is unattainable in golf. Having said that, it might be fair to say "perfect" for any individual game is getting the most from the conditions. Which would include zero missed putts,  and either 100% GIR, or holing out if you miss the green in regulation. It should not require holing out from the fairway on approach. Example of perfect game stats might be:

    Putts per hole avg: 1.0

Birdies/eagles: 9 (or 18) ie- under par on every hole.

Anyone know what the record (under par) is on WGT- for both 9 and 18 holes?

Assume you are talking RG type comps.

Had just a very few.  Couple of 27s at Congo F9, but never that still elusive 26.  Shot 25 at Whistler B9, and a v few others come to mind after many attempts.

    Yep I hear that.

I have no where near the consistency of top players.  Meter jumps are a pig, but in all honesty  compared to top players, talking genuine ones and there are a few,  it's my putting as much as anything.

No replacement for knowing a course exists, and especially the green inside out.  Pretty sure I get the odd more read I am not sure on, and that difference is time spent playing I think.
