Couple of suggestions!

  Probably already been covered several times. I'm new so bare with!

  I like the game, love it in fact. But there is a distinct lack of driving range facilities at the pro shop. Maybe try a driver before buying or just practice. Also I haven't come across an amateur only tournament yet. Maybe I have been looking in the wrong places. Thank's for looking.

  best way to try a driver is to use a practice mode and rent one for the day.t here you can hit on any hole you want as many times as you want.

  Free rental weekends are a real boon to trying lots of equipment. Since you are at such a low level, it is also best to wait before making a purchase. You will outgrow your equipment rapidly and many high level players are still using starter putters or wedges.

  Talk to friends and the people you play with to gain information. Lots of tips can come your way which can improve your game without spending major credits to rent or purchase the wrong equipment.

  Instead of a driving range, just play what you want. Also Re: your question about Amateur tourneys, those weekly and monthly tourneys are separated in tiers, so you will compete with your own tier only.

  Advantage against practice rounds:

  - tourneys give double base XPs,

  - unlimited tourneys may be entered multiple times,

  - bad scores don't affect your tiering up,

  - good scores will help your promotion, which practice rounds do not.

  Caveat: Do not buy CC passes if you're asked so.

  In answer to your second question there are amateur only sections in a few tournaments on the tournament page but the best thing would be to join a country club with lots of other players around your tier.

  After posting this, I did actually come across my first amateur tournament. Thanks for some great replies guys. I need to practice more though :P
