I think there NEEDS to be something built in where when a ball "wears out" it is automatically replaced with a similar ball instead of a starter ball.... and some sort of gauge that shows BEFORE a round how many hits your ball has left on it.

First it sucks to start out a round and AFTER you get into it you find out you have a very few hits left on that ball... you should be able to tell BEFORE.  This ESPECIALLY suck if you PAY to enter a tourney and then find out you have little life left in your ball.  Once you are "in" you are screwed if you want to back out and change balls.

Second, I know the WGT gives us various balls for free (much appreciated thank you).  SO lets say I am playing with one of these balls and get used to it.  Then it wears out (or lost) and I get a starter ball and the swing meter; distance, etc all of a sudden is different.

I think the free balls should be put into the same 'group" so when one wears out you get another JUST like it.  In case no one has noticed all the free balls we get from WGT have the same settings.  SO I have one ball from Christmas, one for New Years, one for something else - ALL the same.  But when one is lost you get a started ball.  when a players is playing for "real" and they lose a ball;.. they don't reach into their bag and grab the worst ball possible....??  So IMO we should get a ball exactly like it if we have it (no matter what pretty picture is on it)

I hate to be negative, but I doubt I'll get a response at all from any of the WGT folks; (let alone this common sense change made)... Of course this is just judging from the 100's of request made for a driving range has fallen on deaf ears for years.

This is a great game; but some simple changes could make it even BETTER

Bar the extra benefit WGT allow of the starter ball allowing you to finish a round remember WGT follow the high competition one ball rule to the letter.

Any ball swapping away from what is already allowed would create more problems than it solves anyway, well IMO and of many.  Definition of similar for starters etc etc ...Practice rounds maybe OK, but I would not use it to any degree...

I think maybe it's time WGT dispensed with the extra benefit, and just send people home who run out of balls through their own fault (as it always is).

Not surprised it's been discussed over and over in the forums, and so I can't blame them apart from maybe saying go look in forums why it's such a crap idea- sorry.

Maybe nice in a shop window to a noob.  About as useful as a chocolate teapot for someone who is also allergic to chocolate though.

Well THAT is exactly why I brought this up.  In EVERY occasion you have to actually sign in to play a round and it's not until AFTER you sign in you see how much life your ball has left.

That is my main question - you should be able to TELL how much life you have in a ball before you go play.  If you have a new ball you know you can play a couple rounds or so.  If a ball is about wore out you can use it to play a blitz or something.  I just feel like we should be able to "know" what we have before we get on the course.  Just the thoughts of a newbie I guess...

There you have a point .  WGT make it harder than it should be to easily tell how much ball life you have left before you go to tee off in the one you care about, but changing the one ball rule is not the way to solve it.

Playing anything half important it's best to to do it with a ball you know is OK / enough credits to say yes please to buy now.

If you are really that concerned, before you play the tournament in question, do this.

WGT Community tab/Golf Courses/pick a course/pick a hole/start the hole/look at ball life, then quit the hole.  There question answered.

I hear what you are saying Gary - ON the other hand; why does WGT have to "Make" it's players go to all that trouble before hand....

Like you said... do this, do that, then do something else.  Be MUCH easier to be able to see how much life each ball has in your inventory....

Seems they have missed the idea that making things more convenient for the players keep them happier; thus keep them playing....

OR (even better) since we ALL know they do this to make money (and they MUST be making TONS of it) why wouldn't they just offer you the OPTION to buy more of the same ball you were using when it wore out (or got hit OB).

I'd be MUCH more likely to buy a set of balls in the MIDDLE of a round when THAT'S what I need right that very moment.  Seems to me most folks would automatically opt to buy a new sleeve of balls right then... then again After all isn't that the way a "real" golf game works.  Hit a ball in the water; and you reach in and pull out another JUST like it.

It is. If you have bothered to buy some and put them in there. It costs no more in the long run to carry a stock of balls.

Except in your case you reach in find no ball then remember that's because you ignored advice to stock up, and so must ask a course official to go get you one.  AFAIK all OK IRL provided no undue delay, but would soon get a name doing it too often.

So basically we see you would now like to see an option to continue with the starter rock or be able to buy a new sleeve exact same ball.  Careful what you wish for, they could change it to "replace via a pro shop cost" or be frog marched off because the official could not go get you one without undue delay.

In all honesty on a list of anything to solve around this place this one is about rock bottom IMO.  We all know the rules, and so it takes some doing to run out.

    +1 Jim!

IMHO all this fuss tells a story of those players who are reluctant to buy new balls but want to use up their single balls due to thriftiness, at the cost of their game quality.

From a quality POV, they'd have to tune in to their clubs and a single sort of balls for the best results, making steady purchases inevitable. I for one use the instant-buy button in the game.

In order to save some, they should rather play less or revert to less expensive balls than do this ball hopping.

    My 2 Pfennig.

If I had 2 Pfennigs for every thread started on this subject I'd be playing with the top Nikes rather than level 33 Callys.
