A purist...well by all means keep your 3 iron and balata wound balls, why not add a 2 iron and give up a wedge. Point being a hybrid can do the same as a 3 iron, a 3 iron cannot achieve the same results as a hybrid from places other than the fairway or tee, or a punched 3-wood etc... Chastise me if you must but I would like the option without having to sacrifice a wedge.

It was not a chastisement of you. But of the golf companies in general. They didn't start dropping irons and adding hybrids to help players IMO. They can charge a little more for the clubs. The hybrids are more expensive than most irons.

     I don't add a 2 iron because I can't have both a 1 iron and 2 iron and still have a 3rd wedge.

Only reason i got the new hybrid is when i use my Nike 85 level irons & drop the 56* wedge, still gives me 115, 80 and 60 yard wedges & a club that goes 225 .And  for some use with the R11s again dropping the 56* wedge on some of the longer courses(im not always on the fairways lol), blitz and par 3s, maybe useful on the new Chambers Bay course we will see, then again i had credits to burn..           :-)~~~               also using the punch option for the PW on both iron sets gives the PW close to a 100 yards..

If they didn't keep making the hybrids go 225yds just like my 3 iron and made them go 237yds to slot nicely in-between my 3wood & 3iron then they sell a lot more.

But with 3 woods that go 240- 250 yards still no need for a hybrid . Between a 225 3 iron and a 240+ yard 3wood the hybrid is still a useless club in the bag . As a matter of fact with most iron sets , the yardages that you get with a hybrid you will find its covered between the 3 wood , 3 or 4 irons . So the hybrid has gone the way of the dinosaurs .

Play for fun games A/S ect plenty of old Dinosaurs out there still useing the Hybrid, After all if they Were not Selling them in Pro shop wgt would not bother with them

l can see that the Career players would want to setup their golf bags  to score low to win the prize purse but the play for fun player  are happy to make a few birdies in a social group just shareing  a bit of banter and enjoying the golf Round

If there was a Hybrid or even a 5 wood in the game that went 237yds i would definitely have it in the bag on some courses. Like at Conga for the par 3 2nd. Yes there's other 3 woods in the game that go 235-237 but not with top performance.

I just don't see why all the top hybrids have to go 225yds. They're useless. No player with a top set of irons would get a hybrid. It would be nice to mix the clubs up a bit instead of every player having exactly the same set up.

    +1 on that idea.

WGT should have made the top hybrid a 230 yrd club with 2.5 spin

When I played with the Max L94 irons, the 215 3-iron left me wanting at times. I bought a hybrid to perfectly suit 3 holes at Merion; #10 tee shot, #17 tee shot, #18 2nd shot...it was a big help.
