I have a question that has been bugging me for some time, and yes, I expect the usual posts from the "trolls".

    My question is:

I regularly play 18 hole stroke and usually it is against people I am known to.  As a "legend" player I am assigned tournament speed greens.  Fair enough.  However, I play almost every night with a very good friend who happens to be a Tour Legend.  We alternate in setting up 18 holes.  When he sets, we get Champ greens, again, fair enough he set it, he should get the greens he plays.  However, when it is my turn to set an 18, despite my Legend status, if I play with a Tour Legend we default to Champ greens again.  My beef is........this is MY game!......it damn well says so.  This being the case, why do I need to default to Champ greens just because I invite a Tour Legend?  Yes they are good, but if they are THAT good, why the hell cant they play on MY greens?  I believe this occurs through all the tiers, so why can't WGT implement a fix so that whoever sets the game governs the green, wind speeds etc.

Sensible comments welcome.  (And yes I expect you to check my profile page)

Any half decent TL (donly have to be decent to be a TL these days) should find any (non latest greatest circus trick stimp 2 or 40) just fine.  In all honesty a good L should not be disadvantaged on champ either (practice in CC these days).

If a TL plays stuff like RGs they play all the speeds, and don't just sit getting better and better at champ by any stretch.

Choice of sensible speeds would be nice, but with what needs fixing around here also down the list.

I take your point Jim, but what happens when say a tour Pro invites a Tour Legend?  Why is everything geared toward the top rank.  The person that sets the game should determine the conditions don't you think?

You may determine "your" green speed in practice games, with common tees for all then.

The rest is - sorry - wishful thinking.

Remember: They are WGT, hope is futile!

tour Pro invites a Tour Legend?

Changed the parameters, but a TP should get whooped on any speed by a (non red tee paper plane) TL on any speed.

Now go to MPC and some L99 TP lurking in the dark waiting for the happy clappy red tee TL also happens.  Higher level Ms say get enough advantage even of the short tees many would say.

IMO yes the person setting up should be able to set the speed if it's a fun game, not even just get limited to the speed that is normally associated with their tier.  If it's not a fun game it's a mis match anyway, and guess still let them set up as daft enough to play a L80 TP for money daft enough to lose credits..

On the long list of things that need doing (urgently) around this place it's just down the list though IMO.  Many Ls / Ms love getting the chance to play TLs on stimps 13 too of course.  Also as Alosso said practice games provide some leeway (not ideal of course).

Futile or not , this is a good suggestion.

The game host gets their designated green speed and if, say a Pro draws a TL, then they're not at an immediate disadvantage.

C'mon Alosso, as long as the Easter Bunny and Santa are still alive I can hope, stop being so defeatist.  ;)

I agree with the OP, it should be the hosts call/choice of green speed. Players joining can decline if they do not like it.

And we can create a CC tounament off red tees and slow green regardless of tier - and it still counts as a ranked roung (this irks me lol) so a change for a TL playing tournament greens is no big deal.

But as Jim says, there are other more urgent things that need to be adressed, but in principle, it makes perfect sense.

Hey m8, I see you posted the thread somewhere else too.

As the WGT DEFAULT feature is to play the highest ranked player greens stimp (speed) when playing TOGETHER, you have 3 options

    • you play the other higher ranked player greens in any ranked match: stroke, alternate, match game
    • you setup a practice round with the green speed you want
    • you level up to the highest ranked players level you want to compete or play together with if the other player is ranked higher than you.

Whether fair or not, you like it or not, you have no other options.

If you think positive, playing higher level greens will always improve your own game. I remember being a legend and always trying to find a TL friend to play together with, it did help me a lot to be ready and competitive for the next level.....my opinion : )
