Who's tried the level 90 R15 driver? How does it compare to the L89 SLDR? It has a half dot more precision but a full dot less forgiveness, which worries me a little - I tend to get a little sloppy on drives.

With the SLDR and L61 Nike balls I play 295 yards with full backspin and 300+ without, depending on the slope of the landing area. How does the R15 compare? Which holes would an extra five or six yards of distance make a difference on?

I'm going to hit L96 for the Big Bertha in about five months, give or take. Just trying to decide whether I should wait or not.

One other thing, the R15 is also .5 faster in meter speed as well (3 vs. 3.5 for the SLDR). Given your sometimes sloppy driving, you'd be better off staying until L96 with the SLDR.

I played the level 79 SLDR for a while, im very happy with the upgrade to the  R15, played a couple Alt matches with C.C members that have the level 96 BB & kept up no problem , some cases out driving them, the extra 5-10 yards is great but as Mukbrain said it is a bit quicker( i use the Max ball) & i have no problem finding the fairway, but u really want to be close to the ding..

    Greetings

When I first saw the R15 I was hesitant after seeing the meter speed. True my L89 SLDR has more forgiveness and slower meter but I was ready for change.

I am not disappointed one bit. I've turned two friends & and unknown onto it and let's just say they are quite pleased. There have been games I kept up or plain outdrove the L98 R1 & L96 Bertha.

Therefore, it is my opinion to say, "why wait". The club is all that and more. By the time you reach L98, perhaps there will be an even better R1. It's my feeling there will be, since this L90 R15 is just as good.

I use the L90 Nike Platinum when I can , more so with the Nike L71, and sometimes L35 Calloway. So a good ball with slower meter should solve your problem.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do. I love it :-)

    ~Cheers

Just played an AS game with someone using the R15, and have to say he kept up with me most times. I was using the Platinum Nike as well.

I hit a corker on Kiawah #2 and did him by 30 yards, but that was only once.

    Cheers

I bought it a few days ago, and I do see the extra yards compared to the 282 drivers. It keeps up with the 287 drivers on most holes. It is a bit faster , but not a problem so far, the 3 forgiveness seems more like 3.5. thumbs up + from me.

Thanks for the replies. It occurs to me that since this week is the Masters, there might be free rentals Saturday/Sunday, so I could try it out then.

I tried it out in the Transamerica Challenge and liked the extra distance... but also hit two drives into 40-50% rough and cost myself birdie chances. I think I'll stick with the SLDR until L96.

I like the extra distance as well, and you certainly notice the extra 1/2 degree of loft. The combination of a slightly faster meter and less forgiveness (compared to SLDR) means that I too will stick with the SLDR and make a decision when I reach lvl 96.

I'm waiting for the higher leveled version of the R15 driver and 3 wood to come out.  Can't be long.   I'm sure Taylormade didn't come out with the "latest and greatest" just to be out done by an older model, (R1).

And then wait for the next newest thing from them in about 2 months lol.
