I just turned Pro and now have access to better equipment.  My current equipment is the following: TaylorMade Rocketballz 10.5 driver, Tour Plus 3 wood, Starter 3 Hybrid 19 (steel), TaylorMade ATV 54 degree wedge, TaylorMade ATV 60 degree wedge, Starter iron set (steel), Starter putter, Starter balls.

What changes should I make to help improve my game?

    Thanks!

    John

    Hello,

I am on a limited budget so I slowly but surely upgraded as I went. At lvl 35 I bought the Taylormade ghost spider putter, still using it. Lvl 39 I bought the 3 Taylormade wedges, but I only used the 60 and 64 degree wedges, I could have held off on the 54 degree because it didn't fit well with the starter irons yardage and the need for a 5 wood. Still using these as well. I waited till level 59 to upgrade further, during this time I was learning to shape shots (a little before and after ding depending on wind conditions and yardages)  and use all the wedge variant shots. At level 59 I bought the Ping G-25 complete set because it offered the first set of irons with a high trajectory, a solid driver with good yardage and an amazing 3 wood. I dropped the 5 wood and started using the 54 degree Taylormade wedge. I am currently a level 90 Tour Master and am still using this setup effectively, but am investigating an upgrade, seeing as I will soon be a Legend and I think that matching swing speeds (3.5 for all clubs except putter at 5) would be a benefit to my game. Currently my drivers and irons are a 4 swing speed, the wedges are 3 and the putter is 5. I hope this helps a little.

John, personally I would hold off until you reach the level 50's, as any upgrade will not last as your tier up.

My advice is wait, and learn and hone your skills in the meantime. If you have an unlimited budget, by all means further upgrade (let us know and I will recommend).

As a minimum try the Tour SD ball - a better ball will immediately held without breaking the bank. As for a putter yes a putter will help, but again the Nike Method - Lvl 51 I think, is still some way off.

So in the interim, a ball, and try all the shots - especially punch (like more clubs in your bag).

Edit - Great advice from Tommy!

The G25's are the first high trajectory irons and have a slower meter.

At that stage 3 evenly spaced wedges - work back from the PW of whatever is your desired set - but the better wedges you buy, the longer you can keep them!

Before Masters, a good 3 wood suffices as distance is not an issue.

With a smart upgrade in the 50's levels, it will take you all the way to legend before another upgrade.

So Tommy without looking at your bag, yes distance off the tee is needed fro the tips.

    Alanti,

Thanks for your thoughtful response.  I may try the Tour SD ball and might upgrade to the Ping G25 irons.

At L32, there's not much to do. You might consider to get the R11 set or irons, or - as a budget buy - the R11 3WD. It might be better than the driver in your bag, and it will provide you with a better 2nd shot on long holes.

Along with that, switching to custom balls will be good for the meter but start constant expenses.

Furthermore, buy no putter below 500 cr!

    Have fun!
