Would it be possible to make it so we can play the balls we want after we have lost or used-up one ball type .........or a slot we can mix balls in?? 1st idea is better.
HI MaxxxOut,
. . . The reason we do not let players swap out balls mid game is to keep it true to the game. In golf you need to play with the same ball you started with . . .
The
rules of golf do not require using the same make/model of ball for an entire round. Or even for an entire hole
if the players
ball is damaged and unfit for play,
lost, or
out of bounds.
The USGA rule book - Appendix I, Local Rules; Conditions of the Competition, Part C, 1., c - has provisions that allow a tournament committee to invoke a local Condition of the Competition known as the "One Ball" Condition, requiring tournament players to use the same make/model of ball for an entire round if the tournament committee elects to invoke the condition.
WGT is in effect the 'tournament committee' and has elected to invoke the "One Ball" Condition for all golf on WGT.
Players that maintain an official USGA sanctioned handicap that do not play in tournaments are not required by the rules of golf to play the same make/model of ball for an entire round.
Casual golfers that do not maintain an official handicap are usually not very familiar with golf's official rules. Indeed, many serious and avid golfers that do maintain a handicap are also not very familiar with golf's official rules.
Rule 5-3: Ball unfit for play - allows a player to replace a damaged ball and play a substitute ball, but does not require the substitute ball be the same make/model of ball.
Under Definitions, 15-1: General says "A player must hole out with the ball played from the teeing ground, unless the ball is lost or out of bounds or the player substitutes another ball . . . " Again, not requiring the same make/model of ball be used to replace a lost, OOB, or damaged ball.
