Posted about clubs in a few other places but this is my opinion.
First I understand the business model. WGT has to come out with new clubs so that they can sell new clubs since our clubs never wear out, in my opinion a flaw in their model.
We don't need new clubs to make the game easier, it's too easy already. Bringing out new clubs makes you more accurate, longer, etc. This only brings scoring down and it's already way too low.
I think that we need a halt in the better clubs and balls until some thought is given into what the end result of better better better will be. Do we really want the cut in the US Open Qualifying in 5 years to be 49. It's probably going to be 55 this year.
Maybe the key is to limit the balls and clubs and as your clubs age make them less accurate and that will be your incentive to buy new clubs. We currently have a driver that is rated at 287 and easily will average 305 to 310. We have irons that go 225 and stop on a dime in a 10 foot circle of the pin. Do we really need better than that? I'm a 5 handicap in real golf, played for many years. I can't hit shots like that and neither can the guys who play on TV every week.
The views and graphics on WGT are realistic. The play is not and it is only getting worse by the week. How about if we put some thought into that rather than into how we design a new avatar or make even better (and more expensive balls). Paying $28 a dozen for virtual balls versus $50 a dozen for real ones seems a little extreme doesn't it.
