Playing the game this way makes it much more realistic AND FUN.  It was like I was actualy playing golf!( Double bogeys Galore!) And so  pleased with just a par!!

I see a link on the main Stroke Play list - is that the same one? Looks like it.

Finally, the international superstardom that Corwyn and his events deserve!!!

I can sum my round up in a word - rubbish !  +8 after 5 was not the sort of start I was after but I am sure not to be the only one so persevered to get to 87.  Roll on Round 2, it can only get better (well, maybe!)

Not terrible tee-to-green, but the putting left something to be desired.

Certainly many more entrants this time round. 3 pages on day 1. Corwyn just went prime time. Hope he doesn't get the Sandy Tatum attention though lol

I totally agree. Knowing why, where and how TIO started and now seeing a link on the main Tourney page to these events is a great triumph for Community Organized Tournaments and Corwyn's never ending desire to bring these to everyone.

I haven't played much more than maybe 3-5 holes(random practice) a day for a couple of weeks now. I just played 18 holes practice in the round 1 conditions just to see how rusty I really was and how hard this set up would be. All I'll say is all scores under 80 for the first round are great.. Corwyn's usual 67 is going to be amazing ;)

Have fun and good luck to everyone.

It would be nice if the tournament page had a link to this thread.

This setup is certainly a short-game workout. I played sort of like I do in real golf, chipping back and forth, except that here I was hitting the second chip close enough to make the putt. 10 putts for a 39 on the front, then 12 putts for a 37 after I managed to hit a few greens on the back. And I didn't make anything from outside 9 feet.

I started very sloppy with a missed green and a missed 7-footer for par on #1, then with a tailwind on #2 my wedge couldn't hold and I settled for bogey. Hit quite a nice approach on #3 for an easy birdie, which I figured would be my only chance of the round.

I played a little long on my third shot on #4, forgetting that it runs away past the hole. I did get up and down again for bogey. Then another sloppy bogey on #4 when I played too far to the right off the sidehill, missed the green, and ended up left of the green after four strokes instead of three. Ran long left on #6 but got up and down again, then hit a very poor hybrid into #7 and found the left bunker. I blasted out what I thought was a good shot, but it ran just far enough to catch the slope past the hole. Got up and down on my second try.

On #8 I was short, of course, and hit another nice wedge in to set up a tap-in par. I tried to play to the right side of the green on #9, but with a strong tailwind, I was between clubs and ended up choosing the shorter one and not getting up the front slope. But I was able to flop it to 6 feet and convert the par (no replay unfortunately).

#10 was pretty routine - driver, 3 wood, hit to the center of the green (wind was left to right), two putt from 60 feet after my first putt barely stayed on the green.

On #11 the wind was slightly helping, so my 3 wood second shot ran up within 50 yards of the hole. I figured the shot at just over 50 yards after adjustments, so I took the lob wedge and played a couple of ticks off of full spin to let it run up the hill. It worked out pretty well.

With a headwind on #12, I tried to hit a full-spin driver and land it on the red tees. It almost worked, but bounced too hard and wound up in 40-50% rough. Not that it mattered much; it was going to be a three-shot hole anyway. But I would have preferred a short iron. I hit a long iron for my third and got it on the green, but not in a makeable range.

I should have thought my shots through a little harder on #13. I played to the right side of the fairway because I always do, but that left no angle at the hole. I tried to run it up left of the hole but it came back off. Fortunately it's a pretty easy up-and-down. #14 also might have been a birdie chance with the strong tailwind I had, but I mishit the 3 wood and left it short of the green. A good pitch and the par was simple.

#15 was a bit of a mess. I tried to play to the middle of the green, but landed into the face of the hill and stayed short. My SW flop came off hot and ran across the green and almost into the sand... leaving a red lie. But red lies aren't too bad once you get used to them. I played a full SW pitch, which popped up into the air and settled a few feet past the hole for a bogey.

On #16 I had good wind and hit 9 iron for my third, leaving an 11 foot putt that was very makeable. But I didn't. That putt and the 7 footer on #1 were really the only makeable putts that I missed.

On the left edge on #17 and a two putt par. Then hacked my way up the hill on #18 and hit one last wedge to easy par range.

Wow! That is exciting. We've been asking for these events to go in the Game Client Tourney list from the beginning, but I thought there was some technical reason Shoe explained why it couldn't happen... In fact, I think it was that the long list of required clubs somehow also restricted the number of entrants.

Shoe, has that been fixed, or is it still the case?

If you're a regular in these events, and haven't entered already it would be wise to confirm your entry (you don't have to play yet, just register yourself in case there is some entry limit).

There is a Required Items link on the Tourney in the Game Client which comically doesn't fit the display window (and the OK button doesn't work, which seems to force a refresh). Unfortunately, the display window begins with each of the irons listed, pushing the more important Starter Driver, Putter, and Wedges off the bottom. I hope this doesn't cause frustration to someone new trying to figure out how to play the event...

... and if I'd known it would be out there for the whole WGT world to see, I certainly wouldn't have made R1 quite so hard, lol!

As I posted above, I was trying to match the VUSO qualifying conditions from last year (but with UEL thrown in). It would be interesting to know if anyone using Starters (perhaps a beginner player from Spring 2014) managed par in last year's VUSO qualy. I think 71 was the closest any of our group got (with Icon's buddy, KyRock75 taking the honors).

@ mmyers0: yes, it would have been nice to have this forum thread link in the leaderboard/tourney listing. I submit the text for Shoe to insert there, and would certainly have included it had I expected it to appear in the Game Client. I'll do that from now on.

@ Cerino: It's great to hear from you again. Thank you (and thanks Mags too) for the kind words.

For those who don't know, Cerino and I started up Tough-It-Out what seems like decades ago, so it really is quite the milestone to see one of these tourneys suddenly have 100s of entries. (In fact, I don't know if we'll ever know how many entrants this event gets, as it should go past p5 of the Leaderboard.)

Congrats to those sub-80 scores already posted, and best of luck to everyone else out there brave enough to take this on. (Note, unlike prior events, it does seem to be showing up in people's score history, so participation may affect one's average ... for those who care about such things).
