    Hmmm ...

Missing the ding, use it only for some putts, the technique is more effective than targeting.

For shots .. Voluntarily miss ding to compensate the wind requires great experience that I did not and for me it is within the lotery, not least because to miss the ding affects the distance of the shot.

Miss the ding on 220 yrds approach with 25 mph crosswind . Want to see that.

As you move away from the DING, the distance penalty becomes less and less for the same offset.

This means if you are aiming off-DING, a small miss will make less difference to your distance than the same small miss aiming at the DING.

So off-DING is safer for distance, and assuming you shape your shot with the wind, hitting Off-DING upwind, you are less likely to get that double-whammy of missing the DING to the downwind side and seeing the ball disappear off the mini-map.

So you definitely don't need to be trying to hit the DING all the time. It's only really useful into a direct headwind. A direct tailwind will straighten up a slight miss anyway!

It's all about personal preferences - but playing off-DING can make life a lot easier.

We have discussed this issue several times b4.

I did it when I was a master & got blasted, I did it when I was Legend & got blasted, I do it now when I am TL with low average and I'll be blasted anyways.....LOL

DING IS KING!, I see it myself;  when I ding:

    • my ball lands always on fairway from the tee
    • my ball lands withing a few feet from the hole in the approach
    • my ball gets in the hole or a few inches when putting

The bloody problem is to ding ALL THE TIME. I ding approx 25% of my shots in a regular round. I see some top players hitting the ding approx 70-80% of the time when Twitching.

Auto-ding cheat is a huge problem, besides the old "game-engine" cheat.

I am sometimes tented to "join the force" and use a cheat....but not, it would take the fun of my perception of the game ; )))

Uneven Lies is a good alternative to "match" cheaters but the best would be FAIR PLAY forced to use the WGT 3 click swing, so auto-ding cheat would NOT work....until a new cheat is created.

I say this again....I would love to see the last 4 rounds of the Virtual Us Open being forced to use the 3 click swing ; ) ...... let me tell you, MANY new names would be at the top of the leaderboard : D

Be welcome to blast me again....LOL

    Yep IMO too.

Missing against the wind can be useful as well though.  Get too wrapped in must ding can work against you.

Pretty much take the game apart with one.  The leader boards would look different if we all had one.  I suspect the very elite would still be that, but a good few others would be just in the mix.  If one existed to pick your hit point, not just ding, would be even better for the cheats.  Does that latter one exist though?  Asked before and no one ever said.

Don't think you are really.  Fun would be gone, and if auto dinging surely that's work.  As work goes the rates a v poor pay, and monotonous dull labour too.  Different playing it properly for fun.

Pretty sure one would be on the shelves quickly.  Also I don't know anyone that likes it.  Now if WGT could say, and be backed up properly, that a 3 click meter guaranteed zero cheating I would be all for it.  I am not excited about that sadly.

EDIT: Transparency is sadly just not existent.  Shame for those that really do play loads and are that good, and shame for the rest of competing with people dining all the way around with starter gear if they want....

I need time to digest and understand your words.

Specifically how a deliberately missed ding can have differents effects that inadvertently missed ding.

I guess the best is to try. :)

I think that ding is king, I can understand that missing just before or after works too.

But the thing is I try to hit ding, and miss slight early/late.  Even trying missing the ding would just mean that I would miss a bit more than planned and that will give you plenty of splash awards.

So my view is , hit where you want it , and you set up for low scores(being a good putter is also a must )

Last year WGTTypoon made a crazy tournament FORCING the 3 click swing (there were no choices, you could play the tournament ONLY selecting the 3 click swing), to my surprise, many players entered, despite it was one of those with crazy speeds too.

Most of the players commented the meter was smoother than using the normal swing and it was not difficult to play with the 3 click swing at all, it was just new and different. Several top players liked it although not all.

    The main thing....auto-dingers cannot use the cheat!!, game engine cheat works no matter what you do, however they sill need to;

    • click 1 to start the meter,
    • click 2 to stop the meter at the desired power,
    • click 3 to hit the ball.....with a ding, miss-ding etc

This 3 "procedures" can easily make you lose accuracy in the shot BECAUSE you need to be PRECISELY ACCURATE clicking 2 times and NOT ONLY ONCE when using the regular swing!!!

Hope I made myself clear Jim.

    Cheers, Eric

edit, I am not a 3 click specialist as many might think, I just want FAIR PLAY!!..something wrong with that?, this game is a "competition" game, just like any other.

I am just not convinced it is as robust as you say...If it is that robust seems a no brainer to create 3 click only RGs, and I am sure it would soon be my new favourite meter.  Only problem is how do we / YOU know it is robust?  No offense just asking.

When an internet nerd creates an "auto-dinger" they go from logarithms to calculate the speed of the meter on it's way down to hit precisely the "prefect" shot, ding we call it.

They need to brained a lot more because they have now two parameters to stop the meter; on the way up & then on the way down. lots more of maths and technical factors involved, not as simple as estimating the speed for one single hit.

If WGT was going to make the 3 click swing the only swing available in general, they would simply collapse because people already know how easy is to play using the regular meter.

But if WGT force the 3 click swing ONLY for competitions where there are lots of credits and actually money involved (prizes with travel expenses payed, etc), nerds would NOT use time creating and selling a new cheat to beat the 3 click swing......only 240 players, in this case of the Virtual Us Open might be interested on buy it, no brainier here, the cheat would never be created and the players qualified will play under the sport goal called FAIR PLAY.
