I always got the best from the big bertha a couple of pixels from full backspin, also the R1 ...

Now the Nike Covert is a different beast , can't for the life of me work that one out and often out driven by my former clubs   :-(

LOL,  It's always like that for me with a new driver.  Had the R1 and changed to the Bertha for the higher trajectory and the fact that I am a Callaway fan in real life.  Although the only Callaway stuff I'm gaming now is yellow balls and an Odyssey putter.  And gloves, and shoes lol.

R1 and the Bertha always seemed (for me) to play best with anywhere between 1/4 bs to 3/4 bs.  Trying to find the happy medium between carry and roll is a great use of mulligans.

I'm now gaming a Covert 2.0 driver that a buddy gave me.  So it would be cool to play it here.

So, if you can sweet talk WGT into it,  I'd trade our drivers if you wanted.  My Bertha for your Covert.  :)

I've got the R1 8.0 as well but imo the BB is typically 2Y longer on non-link golf courses. I would recommend 50-75% B/s on most drives on regular courses.  On links course 25% B/s to 25% T/s get you some crazy roll-out.

    **note**

In some tests with the R1 I've noticed a significant yardage increase by missing the Ding early (still working out how early is optimal).

I love and use the Bertha. I am open to buy the L-99 and the new R-1 special...nah to both. Both are as good, but not better. As for ball spin setting, I am addicted to just the smallest smidgen of B/S you can imagine. But, BEWARE!! I use only the Nike Plat ball. With other balls, the best B/S varies and finding the optimum amount is a must.  ~ SP ~

R1 does pretty well with FBS for tail winds (anything better than 90 deg) and FTS for headwinds when you play Cally 33 or 35 balls.

The "Free" Glenmorangie balls, however, behave quite differently. I have gotten 350 yd drives at St Andrews (with those balls) with 18 mph tail wind and full top spin (?)!! Have no clue why it works like that - but saw it several times in the past 2 weeks.

    LOL

I don't mind getting outdriven by a couple yards.   Just gives me the chance to apply the pressure.  Heck, I even sometimes lay off full power just to have the first approach shot.  HEHEHE.
