Hi all just wondering about opinions on lvl 97 irons i have lvl 85s but will be 97 level soon.

All my clubs are 3.5 meter so what you think for the difference in meter and general specs are they much better than the 85s or has anyone changed and are you happy with the change.

    Thanks,

    Decdev.

Only tried the L85s during a free rental for fun but the L97s would be a worthwhile upgrade from those, IMO.

When they were first released I rented the level 85's , hated them compared to my R11 irons I had at the time, bought the level 97 version and they were absolutely fantastic .... Only just replaced them with the Nike Vapors but still have the 97's

Don't let the meter speed bother you, you'll get used to it real quick. Well worth it for the extra spin, distance and precision they come with. Pick the right ball and you're in business.  ;-)

I too, went from the R-11 irons to the level 97 Nike's and then to the level 101 Vapor Irons.  Each upgrade for me, was well worth it. My game took a big turn for the better when I got the Nike level 97 irons.  I hope you like them. You won't be disappointed.

I would be interested in your, or anyone elses, opinion as to which is the right ball to play with the lvl 97 Nikes?

Without trying to sound funny any premium ball you have mapped with them and know every nuance well.

Website via my page for some mapping (or go straight to page of siggipj76 for a good start point ( OK L90 clubs with balls as stated but will be cunningly close).

81 balls with the 97 Nikes was my ball of choice , 90 Nikes offered just too much spin and deviation, a lot use the level 61 Nikes with the top end clubs.

I liked the L90s with them.  With the L100 irons the L90 balls were like waiting for Cmas I found, and back to the L81 ball I went.

I think any of the L90 iron / decent prem ball combos are just great, and it's really personal preference as to which is best.  Well OK personal preference and then committing  to that combo, and learning it real well. L61 ball ball type attributes I agree are certainly great balls, and probably the point a good start point to work from with cost v performance in mind.

The extra precision will be the big difference maker from 85s to 97s and imo would be worth the purchase.  The .5 meter increase shouldn't make you blink too much.  As far as a ball combination, I'm beginning to think very Very strange things on that subject lol ;).

What do I mean?  Well, I've been playing a lot of ReadyGo CTTH's lately, and virtually every single tournament a guy named Javiertorg is 1st place, or top 3.  He plays with the Nike 100s with 4.5 spin and MaxMeterGoldVapor balls (2.5spin, 4.0dist, 5.0meter) which on paper have rather BLAH stats at a very expensive price.

I'm trying to wrap my head around how this guy can absolutely DOMINATE the other TLs like Fmagnets, Tasor, etc with a Crappy Ball (on paper!)  So maybe some BALL GURU can step up and give some reasonable explanation?  It's about the ugliest ball I've seen but if it really, somehow performs that well, then I might give it a try too (and I've been anti-slow meterish and more focused on spin to this point).
