yes, it is true. The new Chrome Callaway Soft Balls (L33 +) are rubbish.
In some other thread I asked if there was a replacement for the discontinued HEX Chrome (L33+). As expected I got no reply. Nonetheless, some other player pointed out that the new Chrome Callaway Soft Balls (L33+) had the same specs.
So, I have given it a try and after some tests I can say now that, I have no doubt that this new ball is useless. The conclusions are that:
- You lose considerable yardage with the longer clubs. For example, I played a round where my driver lost on average 12 yards!!!
- The flight of the ball is very inconsistent. it was shocking to see that the medium/long Irons either came up about 8 yards shot, or in some other practice shots go into a very low flight, and bounce off the green !!!
But do you thing this is an accident?
Obviously not. The success of the HEX Chrome balls was due to the fact that they were not too costly, considering their performance. By discontinuing them and offering a useless replacement, WGT expects people to move to a much more expensive ball and make some more money.
In other words, this is typically a fraud scheme, a gold mine, where each time WGT needs to replenish its coffers, just discontinues a product and forces You, the player, to spend more money relearning the game.
