You have to choose "punch" for it to work.

Do! Just play backspin and remember that it will roll out more anyway. But punch shots don't work well uphill.

Use pitch all the time, but only with the most lofted club. Sometimes with the others, but it's not often. My 13 pitch has gotten me more hole outs than any other setup probably.

Punch-shots have plenty of up-hill roll out for me. For instance, I've birdied hole 15 at Bethpage plenty of times from the front bunker using the punch-shot, and many other up-hill punch-shots on our stroke-play courses.

It's all in the power you hit the shot with, and also like you said, the amount of forward or back-spin we put on the ball will have an effect on a up-hill punch-shot as well.
