am using a wgt free ball with rapture clubs.  i plan my shots with top and bottem, but with not as much capacity.  others i have played with, master, tour master, have told me that a plain wgt ball will not accept top or bottem.  it appears to me that i am getting some action, albet not much.  can anyone enlighten me on this for absolute.  i would like to be able to program my shots to be as accurate as possiable.  thanks.

lee-The spin happens when a ball that accepts spin (dot rating) is hit with a club that can impart it. The free balls have no dots so whatever you're seeing is not what it could be.

The B-ES balls are only 10 credits for 3 and they have 1 dot. You will see something with those. The Tour-SD for 43 credits has 2 dots and you will definitely see something with those. Hope this helps.  GL

i normally have a supply of gs13's on hand, if what i see is any indication of how good my regular g13's are, i'm being robbed.

i have taken what you said to task.  in reviewing the video explaing how to hit the ball, they use a non-enhanced ball with a wgt starter driver.  it is not mentioned that this combination will not work. it only mentions that an enhanced club/ ball will show more movement.  nothing is said in the faq section about no spin action only that it increases with better equipment.  you do not explain in your answer where you were informed of the "fact" that a ball will only accept spin if it has a spin rating and in turn is hit by a club that will give a spin to the ball. if it can be pinned down i would appreciate it.  i thank you for your efforts.

I'm thinking Yankee Jim's insights are through experience... lots of experience.  Even if the starter balls have spin it would be very minimal.  If you want spin, if that's important to the way you play the game, if you want spin to ride the wind for longer drives, then you've gotta plunk down some cash for balls that demonstrably spin.   That's my spin on this topic.

If memory serves me correctly, the only time you get some stopping power from the starters and wgt ball is if you are hitting a full shot at max power (8 iron or less).

Any half measures negates the spin input.

Yes, Lee, DMM is right. The only way you're ever going to know for yourself is by trying the different combinations. I don't think there is a "primer" on spin but having seen the evolution of it in this game, reading discussions about it here and playing with the various combinations I can tell you what works. Free balls don't spin. Free clubs don't spin any kind of ball. I've been caught in the middle of a round running out of the ball I was playing and having to finish with a free ball. LOL-trust me, they don't spin.

It depends on what you mean by spin. Will it stop like a tour-sd ball? No.

    Does it help? Yes.

That was how you played the first par five on BPB. (First Open) If you set up to full wedge yardage and did full backspin it would stop by that front flag position. If you messed up the approach and had to do any kind of half/three quarter shot you would roll out to 15 yrds.

    Happy hitting

my guess is that u still get two balls worth of spin. I played the combination of raptures with the bxd balls which also have no spin for quite a while and they were nice on kiawah. Bethpage was the only other course at the time and it was virtually unplayable for any good score that is. I'd recommend almost always full backspin with that combo unless you want to push a shorter iron and have plenty of green to work with. Medium high flight will get a lot of roll.
