I was -8 going into #16 at St Andrews in a Ready-Go, (confident of getting another birdie by 18th), to post a decent score, then on my drive on 16th, with 16 mph right to left wind i missed ding slightly to land in draw box so drive would go straight, but ball still flew into bunker, i played safe using pw, and every other occasion ball will fly out o.k, but this time, ball only landed on top of bunker, then rolled back in! This time, ball was close to wall, so i aimed right, but ball still hit wall (even though there was plenty of space where i was aiming right). I was now in a tougher position, so this time i went backwards! I finally got out and finished hole with a quadrouple bogey!

I thought i could salvage the round but on #17, the meter decided not to stop where  i pressed it, but carried on going way past the ding, flying my ball out of bounds!

So in the end because i went from -8 to evens in the space of 2 holes i withdrew.  But although i would have been annoyed in the past, i now laugh at such a downfall in a short space of time, because thats the beauty of WGT!!!

But has anyone had a worse downfall from being in a good scoring position???

I nearly had it happen again....I was -9 going into 16 in ready go just now, (again confident of being -10 by the usually birdiable 18th!), then another meter skip to fly me out of bounds!, but this time it was only a double bogey so i managed to salvage my round back to -8!!

Not quite as bad as yours.... -4 going into the 9th in the F9 RG at Oakmont... played to the bunker because of the wind, pitched out to catch the slope but a bit off the mark, had a 6 footer for par back across the slope...... 4 putted!  Yes 4 putts!  -4 to -1 and a serious drop in the standings for that tourney.

It happens to all of us.

    Cheers

I was -6 after 5 holes on the Oakmont front 9 ready go last week, an eagle on 1 followed by 4 birdies. On the 6th I lipped out for birdie, no problem just keep going. On the 7th I made a solid par. To the 8th tee....metered 70 yards into the crap, 3 more shots to get on the green and a single putt. I then made bogey on 9 to finish with a 32, 1 shot off the lead.

That however pales into insignificance when on the verge of my first sub 60, things went horribly wrong. -13 on the 18th tee at St Andrews, probably the widest fairway in world golf. I thought to myself you've finally done it, a 59 or 58 awaits. I then got metered off the tee and the ball is topped right into the Swilken Burn, lol. I managed to hit the green with my 3 wood approach but could only 2 putt. A 58/59 became a 60. I was absolutely gutted at the time, lol....

ps the 16th tee at St Andrews is the hole where I have experienced more meter skips and freezes then any other hole.

St Andy's 4th gets me all the time nowadays... almost as much as kia 17th where i dumped it into the drink three times in succession after birding six holes in an rg...

sorry to steel your thunder chris but,   a while ago i was playing the weekly 18 at st andrews and was -12 on the 14th tee the best rd of my life going, stepped ont =o the tee nailed the drive only to get one of the biggest devations i've ever seen ball went so far right it was ridiculous then for the rest of the round the meter went nuts and even if i did manage to ding one it didn't go anywhere near where i was aiming, if i remember correctly ithink i had 2 triples and 2 doubles to finish the rd and finished with a 68, gotta love what this game does to your head,   :)

Worse --- you don't know what Worse is ....

33 years ago I got out of college and started a great job with a good company at a nice salary.   (and I am still with them).    I had visions of Corvettes, Condo's in Stowe and Florida and a penthouse in NY.

    Then I got married !!!!!!!!!
