    1)  You could set up a match deadline, give 24 or 48 hours for the 2 (or three...stay tuned) parties to complete their game.  It would be up to the participants to co-ordinate when the match is to be played.  If not played but the deadline both are DQed from the tourney.

    2)  Assign a moderator that can play along as a third party, keep and validate the scores, and make decisions on technical issues such as disconnection.  The moderator(s) would obviously need a lot of spare time to oversee all matches and the flexability to attend whenever the parties decide to play the match.

Just a couple of thoughts on the logistics....

Just a last comment before I leave, regarding AvatarLee's comments:

I agree with both his ideas, but I think the moderator shouldn't be only one person, but there should be three or four different moderators so the same person doesn't have to watch all the games.

The person in charge of organising the tournament(by the way, we must decide who it's going to be) should write a post with the matches that are to be played, the deadline for those matches and the name of the moderator for each match.

Then, the two players and the moderator would privately decide a day and a time for the match.

I too will be gone for the weekend, but am getting really excited about the Match Play tournament.  Here are some additional suggestions:

Perhaps it would be best to play two matches at a time.  For example, Players A, B, C, and D all log on and play at the same time... A and B are in one match versus each other and C and D are in another match- all parties would essentually serve as the match moderators.  After that match, the two winners could play their next round match while they are still logged on- and either or both of the losers can stay online and moderate the winners match (perhaps even having a friendly match against one another).

It would be great if someone who is computer savvy could set up a webpage to host the brackets where all contestants could go to see match dates & times and where they stand in the tournament... if this tournament is a success, i can imagine that more would follow.

Thanks to everyone for showing interest!

This is a great idea! If there aint any unseen happening, im very much available moderating some matches from monday to wedensaday  9:00-15:00 and 21:00-23:59 CET time. (off course a little flexibility here.)

I even would like to participate in the tournament aswell, means that everyone who join the tourneys allso could moderate a match or two.

Thanks again for a great idea :-)

I'd be interested in joining this, if space is available.

I can build a website and would be interested in helping however I could. I was also thinking about some sort of skins game. Be alot of fun, plus I've given up online poker for this game so I got alot of gamble left in me.

See this website here - http://www.freewebs.com/tenniselbowtour/index.htm - as an example for setting up your own matchplay tournaments (this example is obviously tennis). Key points: deadlines, msn messenger used extensively
