Merion wind direction

  Merion # 10  just hit driver over the green and out of bounds,looked to be right over the pin. thats 270 up hill into 18 mph wind,hit  3 wood over the pin  next shot. Wind direction says hole playing into wind but plays like its down wind.A few holes later hit 8 iron (135yd club) into 18 mph wind and it went 137 yds. These shot results are way off.

   270 yds, that's the short tee. Actually about 240 to pin. Even into 18mph  wind, if you hit driver you're ob.

  The stated yardage on the 10th on Merion is measured along the centre of the fairway and then left through the dogleg - 270 from the front tees. But if you cut off the dogleg the real yardage is 240. You can determine this by adjusting your tee shot and mousing around the hole.

  The short par 3 13th plays about 10 yards shorter than the stated yardage, perhaps accounted for by hitting the ball farther from the teeing ground than the fairway + being a little downhill (but in this case I think the hole is 'juiced' by WGT to play shorter and bring the bunker behind the green into play).

  Excellent point Zags!  It is not mentioned on the forum enough IMO.  These virtual clubs do travel farther off the tee than on the fairway. Anywhere from 5 to 15 yards farther depending on the club and spin.  Therefore when mapping your clubs you need to hit shots from a tee as well.

  Not a depiction of Merion #10, but serves it's purpose.  I'd imagine the score card lists this hole at 385 yards measuring by fairway but cutting the corner it's much shorter.

  

   

  In this case 275 yards if you hit straight at the pin.
