Give it a rest with the high wind RG's... puhleeeeeze

  Find no enjoyment in playing these... like trying to navigate a ping pong ball in a typhoon...  Chambers Bay, 2 of the first 5 holes I could not get within 50 yards of the green in two on par 4's.  Scroll on by, WGT... nothing to see.  Why am I typing this?  Do they even read these forums, or are they too busy checking their bank accounts?

  What I don't understand is why they're putting up 50 cent and 1 dollar ready gos with heavy winds. Why can't they save the heavy winds for the big pay-off events ?

  How high wind are we talking about here? Just played 9 holes on chambers bay in 30ish Mph winds, no problems. I'm guessing you mean a lot stronger winds?

  Edit: also, when you have to play from the tips on championship speed greens you will understand ....

  Head-to-head matches on mobile doesn't show any score history or stats...
  
  Okok,  I've never played championship greens, it was tournament speed (12) at this particular occasion. Also master tee doesn't play that long.

   

  If you did talk about the ~30 Mph winds, I wouldn't say it's that different from playing real golf a windy day. It will add a couple of shots to your normal score, but doesn't make it a lottery or unplayable.

  That's pretty much the difference-maker. Playing in any High (and some courses, even moderate) winds, can make some holes impossible to reach in regulation. CB No.1 with a big headwind can't be reached in 2 shots. 

  It's a lottery in the sense that if you don't get a good/decent wind set, you're screwed. 

  Bandon and Chambers Bay are difficult in big winds. The rest are OK, unless you get a nasty wind set the entire round (big headwinds on Par 5's and bigger tailwinds on the Par 3's).

  I like to play in heavy wind, because when I'm playing I don't forget that it's the same nightmare for the other players :p

  The proof is that I've just won the RG on Chambers Bay despite one bogey and a global score of "only" 64. I was not able to reach the green on #1, no eagle on #4 and #12, was very short on #6 (but made the long putt for birdie) and a heavy side wind on #15 sent the ball in the bunker (bogey). I prefer playing that kind of challenge instead of Bethpage in low wind. Too boring.

  With my equipment some holes are impossible to reach in regulation even from Master tee. But that's not the end of the world, just mean you have to scramble for par, and make your birdies on the other holes. Even on the PGA tour, players can't really go for birdie on every hole.

  Isn't the wind setting the same for everyone in RG's?

  By "good/decent wind set" Jay means wind directions ... here's an example.

  Player X gets a set of 16 heavy headwinds on say, best of par 5 for 18 holes...

  Player Y gets only 4 heavy headwinds, 2 tailwinds, and the rest crosswinds ...

  Player Z gets 2 heavy headwinds, 2 crosswinds, and the rest tailwinds ...

  More than likely, they will finish Z,Y,X on the leaderboard ... and that's saying they are all of more or less, the same playing ability. 

  Yes ... sometimes it's a lottery. In many ready gos, if you're scrambling for par on very many holes, you'll find yourself finishing in 34th position or just withdrawing. More than just your couple of strokes.
