  It sort of reminds me how easy the front 9 of St. Andrews was when it was first released. Sight unseen my first go around on it was a -4 32 with a 4 putt double bogey on # 2

  Yes ... it's an easy nine. Hopefully the back nine will be tougher. I know one of the par 5's will be ... :-) no hitting long irons onto that one and having an easy putt for eagle. 

  Well Don (hi), I am sure it will be. When one plays Pebble the first few times, after the awesome beauty and one of a kind smell settles in to almost normal, one will believe that "hey, I'm cool, I am still breathing, I'm playing Pebble and still alive" because the first six holes are fun and can be had. It is not strange for a 10 hdcp to be 3 under after those six. The course opens friendly and playable. At 7, 8, and 9, things start changing and you may spend your entire -3 savings account right there, boom, boom, boom. And then you will remember forever that starting at 10, each successive hole becomes slightly more difficult as you progress...it is attention getting. By the time you putt out on 18, you will be quite grateful to be able to play to your hdcp.  ~ Lily ~

  Wow Lily!  (hi) You sure know your Pebble Beach! ;o)

  I found the USGA Pebble Beach 2010 US Open Hole by Hole stats page and they rank the holes hardest to easiest (in relation to par).  The par 3 17th played the hardest with an overall average score during the US Open of 3.49.  One half stroke over par.  The par 5 6th hole was the easiest at 4.65 avg.  One third stroke under par.

  The US Open plays the 2nd hole as a par 4, it was 2nd hardest hole.  IRL and on WGT we play it as a par 5.  If the US Open players played it as a par 5, then it would have been the easiest hole (again in relation to par).

  I added a column in the chart below showing how the holes would have ranked IF #2 was played as a par 5 like we do.

  

  As we play it on WGT, 7 of the easiest PB holes are on the front, 7 of the hardest holes are on the back!

  I can't wait to play the back 9.

  Interesting, Andyson!

  As a small addendum, #2 seemingly is the only one on the front nine which doesn't follow the black tees yardage as given above.

  Here, it's 511 (blue) - 502 (gold) - 483 (white) - 455 (red) yards.

  Me thinks they took the longer number (originally "blue") for black (WGT blue) and put the USO yardage to WGT's gold tees at this hole. These 9 yds won't have much impact on the difficulty I suppose.

  483 (WGT white) is nonexistant at 17-Mile-Drive, and WGT red is close to Pebble's gold of 460 yds. Pebble's white (428) and red (360) aren't played here. Wonder how this sequence of teeing areas looks like on the pictures.

  Overall, red (WGT) is the new white (Pebble) as well as WGT's blue is the new black ;)
