Out of Bounds. Why can't I have my ball back

  I hit a ball left of the green on #17 at St. Andrews and they said it was o.b..  That is ok the problem I have is that the ball was not lost but I lost the ball.  These balls are not cheap and dont last.  I can see if I hit it in the water or even the weeds, but there was no trouble were I hit the ball.

  Them's the rules. WGT has to make a profit you know. Oh, and don't overhit on that hole either as that wall doesn't stop balls going OB there.

  From the FAQs Home:

  If you hit a ball OB or into a Water Hazard that ball will be removed and will be replaced with a new ball of the same type and color if you have one. If not, it will be replaced with the Basic ball.
